Maybe I missed a thread about this, but I haven't heard anyone say how they did with the Utah Bounties... anyone buy a new truck or toys with their money...?

I thought about heading that way, but we were kind of busy. Is that still in effect? Any idea how long it will go? Thought about doing it next year if it was still going.

I am wondering how long the UT legislature will continue funding the bounty if Utah hunters are not willing to kill puppies and do some ADC work. The Utah coyote bounty is year around and puppies are worth $50.00 any age. Utah DWR has been encouraging hunters to pursue coyotes during the denning period so the bounty will be more effective in helping the resource.

I put a contest on in November last year and had the DWR use it for a check in location. There were a few people that were not in the contest that brought in large amounts of them. I am sure a few made quite a bit of money.

This will only go until the money is gone. It is hard for someone to come from out of state for a day of hunting and collect it. They have certain times and days that they do the check ins. You need to also make sure you are registered and have all the paper work and locations.

Bushman did you turn in the ones you said you shot in the post about Northern Utah on July 23. The only check in for Northern Utah in July I believe was July 30 and by appointment only. How did you turn them in?

You are correct, I was unable to secure an appointment anywhere in the state on the one day that I was passing through. So, let me clearify my statement;

I plan to turn in my jaws and ears this fall when I return for deer season, upon recieving the bounty I should have enough money after putting aside for taxes to fill my tank and maybe buy dinner. Hopefully I can tag some more coyotes, but I am aware that I got pretty lucky in dropping two young summer dogs in Central Utah on private property that I, my family and a ton of coyotes only has access to.

Except that you didn't drop those coyotes in central Utah. It was within site of the border. I know that area very well. Nice try

Two words; Fillmore Beaver.

Man, I am glad that I got that off of my chest.

Oh my bad you are referring to where your family has land not to where you got your double . I see now.

Going to Utah to satisfy my coyote itch was long overdue. I went there yesterday for other reasons but brought my calling gear for a couple of stands in the morning. I now know why Utah has a bounty, they have lots of coyotes! I cold called three stands--called two in; one down. The other...(I suck). I don't know if it was sheer luck or what but to cold call three stands and get two in is very rare in my experience.

So folks, get to Utah! Lots of BLM, great folks (very friendly--experience based on two ranchers and a trapper), no license needed and plenty of $50 bills walking around out there.

Got this one at 10 yards with the 870. BTW, the desert sage is no joke in Utah. Completely different calling environment from NV where I went--shotgun is a must. The September dates for check-in haven't been posted yet but I love the fact that I have to go back to turn it in (a valid excuse). I'll be leaving early (with my gear).

Man O Man... I'd love to hit that state on this year's coyote run. It just seems like it would be more worth while shooting fifty dollar bills, instead of just getting pictures of them hanging on my van.... and then getting into trouble...LOL.

I had signed up last year... but never made it... stayed in W.Ok.. and W. Ks the whole time.

It's got me thinking now... thanks for the post. Dan

ps... I thought you only had to turn in the ears and scalp... and the GPS numbers.... is that wrong...?

You are correct and the lower part of the jaw as well (I just took the head and put it in a shopping bag). BTW, if you do hit Utah make sure to schedule it around the check-in dates (make the check-in date your last day).

Are you kidding they didn't fund anything. The big game hunters pay the bounty through license sales. And I reckon the dwr probably takes a good portion for admin costs. Sort of a stupid idea really. The guys who hunt coyotes will hunt them regardless. And not many will hunt them in May/June when they are taking a toll on the mule deer fawns. How many coyote shows have you seen filmed in Utah........zero.

The fur buyers didn't like the fact that the hunters/trappers were double dipping so they got together and agreed not to pay more than $22.50 per pelt with slit ears. Upset a lot of folks selling hides. Most will be shipping out of state this season.
