Oh yeah, come on over. www.saubier.com

the 17Rem is going to be your friend. The Fireball, Hornet, and other various wildcats are good for fur. I shoot a 17 Javelina, a 17FB on steriods. It's a B/A round but the 17Rem would be a better choice for a person coming into 17's for the first time. It will push the heavies fast and lightweights faster. You'll never regret it. Also there is brass available and tons of loading data. Adam

I don't shoot any of the ones you listed, but I do shoot a 17 Rem. Lots of experience with that caliber. If I was focused mainly on Fox and/or Bobcat I would go with the 17 Hornet. Now that Hornady is making factory ammo for it you should be able to buy already formed brass, thus making it easier to reload. Next I would go with the 17 Fireball, which is another really good Fox caliber. Both will take Coyotes at the distance you mentioned and both are pretty darn Fur Friendly.

If you want to learn about small calibers that is the place to go.

What is a 17/223? I thought the 17 rem was just a 223 necked down. Or are you just saying a 17 Remington in a sneaky kinda way?

We have shot a ton of gray fox. I have killed them with .22 mag, .17 fireball, .221 fireball, .223 and 12 ga. Have had runners with .17 hmr and dont recommend it (my opinion). The .221 and .223 have made more of a mess on broad side shots and I have hit em in the shoulder with the .223 and taken off the front leg. I have had very little damage with the .22 mag (30 gr vmax). This year I have been hunting with a .17 fireball and have taken 1 grey fox, he was shot in the chest at 70 yards no sign of a bullet hole, no blood, maybe I scared him to death. When you shook him he sounded like a half empty drink bottle. This is with a 25 gr Berger match hp.

I just took my first two foxes with my new Specialized Dynamics 18in Ar, and the results were awesome. The first one down was a two holer. One in, one out, but they were about the same size. Nice and small. The damage to the body was impressive. The second was not as good a shot, clipped him in one leg, which was taken off, but the follow up headshot did the trcik, so most of the fur is fine.

I am using the 25gr Hornady HP, I have gone away from the 20gr Accu-Tips, due to the amount of damamge they do. Now I am looking forward to taking a cat or a coyote and see how that goes.

I have no idea about the 17 rem but I think it's made from 222 brass... I know it's not just a necked down 223....

I really like the 20 practical and have a 6x45 on order. I'm all, about simplicity and it doesn't get a whole lot easier than 223 brass through one die!
