Colt, S&W, Remington, Bushmaster or others. Give me your choice and why?

BTW: Being from Maine, my answer is Bushmaster. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif I would gladly take the others too.

Dont start the my AR is better than yours...

This gets asked on every board I have ever joined and it always gets ugly.

I have a RRA and love it. my current build in progress is a DPMS for the most part.

Let's see....

I have a DTech.....fantastic piece of equipment.

I have a DPMS......another great piece of equipment.

I have a Bushmaster.....yep, another great rifle.

Just in case anyone hasn't figured it out yet.......

THEY'RE ALL GREAT RIFLES. At least if you stay in "name brand" equipment.

If I had a choice, and only had to have ONE AR rifle, it would have to be a custom hand-made rifle by DTech or Dan Carey, or another comparable smith. Why?....because I can call them on the phone and actually talk to them PERSONALLY. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Ask Mike or Dan how many hours they spend on the phone with a customer before they build his rifle.....then call Bushmaster or Colt and ask them the same question. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

That's reason enough, IMO. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

I was hoping to avoid that. I am considering purchasing an AR-15 and wanted some good positive feedback. Customer service, accuracy, reliability in harsh conditions, that kind of thing.

Just finished a build myself.A double star lower an a M&A parts upper.Great gun an shoots some kind of great.

It was fun building a rifle that you make work.

Depending on what your going to do with it would help determine the rifle. If I had that budget, I would contact Mike at DTech and tell him what you want and he will build you the most accurate rifle you could ask for. If you want one off the shelf, my vote goes for RRA, no matter what the configuration.

The truth is that while there are several dozen "Brands" in reality there are fewer than half a dozen "makers" CMT, LMT. Colt and Olymoic are a few of the makers and colt buys some parts from CMT or LMT or even Olympic. Most of the name brands are made buy one of several of these makers just assembled by the Brand and you can do the same thing AR's are very user friendly to build or DIY modifacations.

It all depends on the person, look at all the different brands rifle and go from there. I love my oly and it shots great. Everyone has a brand they like, its just like a car brand some people hate one and love the other.

+1 for DTech. Mike was very helpful when I bought my upper from him. I've also heard good things on PM about Dan Carey. I bought my RRA National Match lower from Adco and put a Nikon Buckmaster 4.5x14 on the upper. I've got about $1500 in the entire setup and couldn't ask for better accuracy. If you're an extreme accuracy nut like me, go custom. What your getting in a custom build is a quality bolt/barrel matchup. It also helps to have a good trigger, which comes with the RRA NM lower. If you want to go all out on the trigger get a Jewel. Like the others have said, there's not really a bad AR on the market.

Thank you for the great replies. Here is another senario.
I was thinking perhaps I could get an off the shelf model and use the extra $ and buy a quality e-caller or optic. What do you guys recommend for an off the shelf model less than $1500. I hunt in Maine so long range is usually not a factor.

thanks

If it's built MILSPEC, it shouldn't matter.

milspec is the most over used, over rated term. all it means is its built to military specifications. Doesn't mean its better, or worse..just to those specifications.don't forget the contracts go to minimum bidder. while in the military I had some pretty crappy items....and they were all milspec.
