Why do some folks shoot 70+ grain bullets in their 223?

Goodluck!

I will give them a try. I am learning that bigger is not necessarily better.....

I have a Lithgow Arms in 223 which has a 1:9 twist and shoots over the counter ADI Sierra Blitzking 55’s sub MOA, however they wander a bit on a breezy day so I’m going to reload with some Hornady 73’s and see what happens.

They shoot them for the high BC and more predictable trajectory from that. More or less...

That is why in some of my .223's (1-8" to 1-7" T).
In the 1-12"T .223/5.56mm I stay less than the 55grs, which is predominantly my Varmint guns (4 legged types).
Simply just picking the correct hammer for the task at hand.

I have one AR that loves 55's (1 in 8 twist) another one that needs 62 or heavier (1 in 7 twist), and others that love 69's (1 in 7 twist). Different strokes for different tools.
