Why do they make a 110 volt or 220 volt Tumbler

May be a dumb question to some, but I was wondering why the two choices. Does the 220 use a lot less electricity? Rick
 
Not a lot less, but if your going to do a LOT of cleaning....and the motor will most likely last longer too. 3-phase is where you get the most savings....but unless you have a comercial building, you won't have it!
 
220 versus 110. 220 can sustain a larger motor with less amperage.. On larger tumblers this means that you can use smaller wire to feed it and a smaller amp breaker.. While the watts will be the same, the current is different.

Example:
5000 watts on 220 volts amps = ~23 amps

5000 watts on 110 volt amps = ~45.5 amps

And yes Europe uses 220 volts, but it is 50 Hz and US devices will not always function properly

Power in the US is 60 Hz
 
The 220V units are 50 hz and are made for the European and Canadian? markets.

The is no reason to use a 220V for a motor that small in the US
