Why does a shotgun pattern high?

You're a brave man 870. I actually didn't leave the house today. Thermometer is now at -12. Congratulations on the success. I have yet to call in a pair, much less two pairs in two stands. Both times I've seen a pair they hung up about 500 yards out.
Were you hunting those Public Hunting areas? Cause if so that is excellent results for public land. I actually checked out a few spots on the eastern edge of R. County a few weeks back. They looked good but I haven't been back to call yet. Still concentrating on spots closer to home.
Steve the gun was bought new in '98, so I don't know where that puts it. But like I say, it doesnt shoot right or left, just high. If I tilt it sideways I can get it to shoot right and left though ha ha.

Yep public land. It was walworth county though not rock. The rock county spot that I like to hit up haven't been producing the last few weeks.

Hevi shot may be hevi but it is not as heavy as lead shot, the lighted front site being "almost" the same hight as the stock bead is also a factor. Lighter individual pellets and a higher sight plane will make your gun pattern high. the choke tube has little or nothing to do with it.IMHO

A Hevi-Shot pellet of equal size as a lead pellet is "heavier" than the lead pellet. That's the whole point of it being called "Hevi-Shot."

To high of a comb on the stock or to low front sight will make your shotgun pattern high. Lower the comb or put a higher front sight on the gun and it will lower your pattern.
