Why get a 30-06?

So why get a 30-06?

Between the 30-30 and the 30-06, there have probably been more food sized game animals brought down in modern times (Smokeless cased cartridges) than any other of the more "Sophisticated/Specialized" modern rifles..While there is probably no way to prove that statement, the venerable 30-06, as well as the 30-30, has been a resident in many homes over the years and I am aware of many farmers in the Midwest that put food on their table with them...

Because it's adequate for hunting anything in North America and you can buy ammo just about anywhere.

I know other cartridges do stuff better but I've not found much the old 30/06 can't do well. Mine shoots 130's around 3200fps and 180's over 2700fps. Recoil is very tolerable and accuracy is great and easy to come by.

If you're hunting Newer Mexico or any state out west. Consider a 7mm mag along with the 30.06. distance with power is what you'll be needing. A .300 mag is a little too big for Deer and Antelope I think.

30-06 is the only thing I use here in PA for deer/bear/predators. My other choice for larger game would be the 270. Like others have said, don't ask why the 30-06, ask yourself why NOT the 30-06

That sums it up, that's the reason I have a Winchester Classic Featherweight that will always have a spot in the safe. It's the 12 gauge of the centerfire world.

This is why. ^^^^^ The 30.06 is the most reliable and predictable caliber. If you don't roll your own, ammo is accessible almost anywhere. If I had to choose one center fire it would be the 30.06.....
