Wichita Mountains Oklahoma NWR cow elk

Got drawn for a walk elk hunt in the Wichita NWR this week with a cow only tag. Hunted my butt off this week and covered a ton of ground but only saw bulls.
Had one meadow the we’d seen animals in two times so decided to go straight to it this morning. At 0725 this morning, had 5 bulls and 3 cows hanging in it. 375 yards with my .284 running a 168 SMK bullets at 2892 fps. First shot was good but she was still standing so put another in and she fell. When we skinned and quartered her, I recovered one of the bullets that struck a rib when exiting. The 168 grain bullet retained 77.7 grains of weight.
This is my first elk and I should have plenty of steak and ground to last awhile.

Thanks, I'm about to do that so I can at least hunt elk once before I'm too old. Always had it in my mind that a once in a lifetime hunt should at least have the opportunity to harvest a bull. That thought is changing though

I saw several bulls every day and only 3 cows the first 4 days of the hunt. I shot my cow with only 4.5 hours left to go before it ended.
