Wilcox Amber Filter for PVS-14

I purchased an Wilcox amber filter lens cap for my PVS-14

http://tnvc.com/shop/wilcox-amber-filter/

and I really like it. it removes that bright green from glaring in your eye while you wear it for extended periods and is easier to use your other eye at the same time for me.

I also wear glasses and it sits tight up against my glasses very comfortably. much better than the eye cup that comes with it in my opinion.

I took some pics with my Droid but I was just in my yard and too many lights in every direction but you will see what I mean.

Thanks for those pics, ShurShot I have wondered about how a Wilcox amber filter would do?

You will have to try it out on a hunt and see if it affects your ability to pick out targets.

Contrast is the MAIN NV theme that allows me to notice something in my field of view, will be interesting to hear how it affects the contrast positively or negatively....

I would say that the best way to describe it is that it's like putting on some sunglasses on a bright sunny day. If I sit and look through the PVS-14 too long without it, I will start to get a headache and will see a green blur for a bit after I stop looking through it. I am definately impressed with this. My partner and I have plans to hit it hard next week so I will let you know. we will be hunting sod fields and can see 600 yards or so to the tree line.

hopefully I will have pictures!

I have only used the PVS 14 with the wilcox filter so i can't provide any feedback on the difference. Now SkyPup has me thinking... It does hide some of the the backsplash of the light onto your face.

One thing for sure is put a small ring of electrical tape (cut down on width) on the wilcox filter before the rubber cover goes on. I lost mine in the woods. I probably bumped a tree when i had the pvs 14 on the gun. Lot of money for a piece of plastic. The photos attached are without the rubber boot on it.

ok, I went down to the lake a little bit ago and found some ducks on the water I would guess about 200 yards out. I didn't have my rangefinder with me and probably wouldn't have been able to use it in the dark on the water anyway. I tried not to move the tripod taking the filter on and off, but the frames are close.

I put the 3x magnifier on the PVS-14 and took some comparision pictures with and without the Wilcox amber filter. It actually is better contrast at least on the water to me.

Nice photos, thanks for posting them, looks like you are getting the photography aspect under control, next we want to see some coyotes!

Cool thanks for the pics. I have one of the ident thread-in style amber filters and use it on my PVS-14's time to time. To be honest I like the green FOV most of the time but on really bright moon light nights, urban area, or viewing for long periods of time none stop the amber filter is nicer on your eyes. I have a set of ANVIS 9's shipping to me not sure if they have the threaded eye ring or not if not I will try a set lof the Wilcox slip on amber filters to cut back on face glow.

I went to the range this morning, just got home. My Colt definately like the 75 gr Hornady Super Performance so it is all tuned in. tonight I will coexist the lasers and will be ready to try some night shooting with it.

the bad news is I got a call this morning and the sod fields we hunt have been sold... now we don't know if we can hunt there which really sucks. I am also waiting on a call for when I can do some test shooting at night at a friends farm. you guys with property don't know how lucky you have it. I have a heck of a time finding a place to go to shoot and the hunting spots are even harder to find. at this rate I may never get a yote. the public range where I went this morning isn't bad when it's not crowded but it is a pain having to wait on the entire line to finish before you can go down range so at times it is pretty slow paced.

oh well... life goes on.

I definately like the amber due to the eye strain I experience with the green. now I need to find another place to go so I can use it!

I tried the amber filter out on a helmet mount pvs-14. 30 mins with out and 30 mins with it on.
I will be using this all the time. It eliminated the eye stain.
I would really recommend this for someone using the HTRN setup.
