We went back to an area we had shot a couple coyotes to see what would be left and there was just some fur and the turd it dropped after being shot. 3 weeks passed since they were shot and there are no signs of anything taking it way, other than some coyote tracks.... just curious!!

Mike...

I used to think coyotes wouldn't eat their own. I've seen enough evidence that I've changed my mind. I'm convinced they will and do.

Also eagles love dead coyotes, along with ravens, crows, magpies, maybe skunks and I wouldn't doubt a badger might snack on a coyote carcass.

i got my first yote this year i trapped tat had skin issues laying in the weeds now and its half eaten.........they start with the stomach and bunghole everytime.....i had a wild dog last year and it was the same scenario....so i gaurantee the yotes in Indiana bymy house eat their own........BET!

IMO, yes they will. I have killed a coyote on more than one occasion and checked on the carcas a couple days later and all that is left is some tufts of hair. The skull, all the spine and other bones have been drug off to parts unknown. I am sure the birds do much of the cleaning but it must be something bigger to drag off the parts.

Just last year I killed a coyote on my first stand of the day and left some thing on stand(can't remember what) also left the coyote to lay in a small ravine. A couple of hours later I went back to stand number one to retrieve what had been left and another coyote was there and eating the coyote I had shot that morning. Saw it with my own two eyes, scared the coyote off the carcass as my rifle was still in the truck.

Can't argue with that. Like people, though, I think it depends upon available food sources. You aren't going to eat 8 bags of Doritos if you've got a steak about to come off the grill. If your wife or girlfriend leaves you and nobody has been to the grocery store for 6 months, that 3 year old bag of Doritos you find under the seat of your truck looks mighty good.

I had a carcass get taken by other yotes... I figured it was because it was in the coldest part of the winter. When times are tough, you eat what is available I guess.

Every coyote that I have left at a dead pile on a ranch has been eaten by its bretheren coyote. One I shot & got away & I found 2 weeks later was also eaten by other coyotes.
They get tore to shreds & chomped on good!
