Will someone recomend a mp3??

Thinking aboutmaking a mp3 caller, will someone recomend a good one?? I don't know much about them but would like to have one that has the back lighting on the control board, and that I could record my handcalls on. Also is there any system minimum requirments?? Cause my puter ain't up to date.

I haven't decided, but I may just order a wildcat with sounds on it, it depends on the price difference. I have found a few sounds on the net, but they don't sound real good to me. I think I would rather pay a little more and have good sounds than not be satisfied.

Any opinions or suggestions?? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Catkill...

You may want to check out the Rio 600 MP3 player if your wanting to build a homemade caller. These are what everyone seems to like best. They apparently have larger buttons for easier operation with gloves and a few other features like displaying the name of the sound your playing? I've not used one personally, but they sound like the one to have from all the reports in here...

cat, i built one with a mp3 cd player that i think will work ok(from wally marty $53) but i think if i did it over again i would make sure to get one thats lit up when it gets close to dark you almost need a small light to read the current sound. if you dont mind my asking neighbor, which part of shannon county you from?

RC, does the rio have back lighting on the display panel?? I found them on ebay, not bad on price for all I know about them

I have a prey master that I am going to hook up wireless with the azden unit, but I am also wanting to get a mp3 to record my handcalls on. I think I could record the calls off the preymaster on to the mp3 and have all my sounds together on one caller. Just trying to figure it all out.

Varmitx, I live in Winona MO., Where abouts in the ozarks are you from??

Done some checking on ebay, looks like the RIO 600 can be had for about 70$. Add a Azden remote for 150$, I allready have a speaker. So 220$ versus 350$ for the wildcatcaller ( wich is basically the same thing). I think I would build one before shelling out a extra 130 bucks.

From what I have found out the Rio don't have a backlit display, I would really like to have that feature.

Any suggestions on other mp3's or where I can get sounds???

Thanks

Even better I just won the azden unit on ebay for 75 bucks, awesome!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I have found that most sounds on the internet are extreemly short samples that need to be cleaned, lengthened , and mixed using an editing program such as goldwave. Congrats onthe Azden. What a steal.

Varmitx, that ain't to far away. I got some in-laws that live over your way. One of them has been a city cop there in Ellington for about a year ( I think). Have you been yotin for very long??

I use a Rio 600 and it does have a backlit display. It uses a single AA battery which lasts about 7-8 hours. Mine has 32 mb's of memory and I've just bought another one off ebay for $46 delivered. It was in the "made for Walmart" bubble pack.

Thanks Tom, I wasn't able to find out if it had a backlight. For under 50 bucks, looks like that will be the one to go with.

Catkill,
Don't be cheap, buy a good MP3 player, you won't regret it. Low end MP3 players don't always sound as good as a higher end one.
Where I live their is a Sony outlet. I bought a refurbished one, and it sounds way better the one my boy has. In fact, I gave it to him.
Good luck to you.

Thanks P.S., for the word of advice. Is the RIO not a good quality one?? I would like to have the best sound qaulity that I can squeeze out of a setup like this. I plan on using my J.S. speaker for now, I think it will work till I can get a different one.

hey cat just got back on sense the last message. been shooting all the buggers that i can find but have never called one up(have called skunks though and one bobcat that i found in the logging road during deer season with lip sqeaks, that one surprised us both) since i got the ecaller going i have not had many chances to get serious with it just crows and trying to get the yotes to answer back which some have.

Varmitx, that first coyote that comes charging in will have you hooked for life. You will never be the same, don't give up and keep callin, they will come.

What kind of e-caller did you put together??

why tight -ss me went with the radio shack one of mr. cobbs, and now in the process of going wireless if i can decide what to use or find something cheap enough. as far as being hooked i been there awhile just aint called one in yet i doubt that i will get anyworse cause of the time factor i only get so much hunting or fishing time. plus this dang time change really puts a damper on my evenings since we cant use the ecall or light at night. oh well

Varmitx, IF your new to callin and need some tips for the country around these parts, check out the Callin Tactics and Sounds thread in the Calling in the East forum. There's alot of good solid info for callin yotes in the timber. I wish I would of had access to that info when I first started callin about 5 or so years ago. Some(no way near all of it) of the info contained in that thread I had figured out the hard way, but it has deffinatley been a big help. Check it out, I don't think you'll be dissapointed!!
