win model 70 bolt problem

Well guys I hope you can help. I posted about the safety on the new mod 70 coyote special wouldnt work. Well I just found out today it wont fire and the bolt will not close all the way.I called a gunsmith and he seemed to know what to do but is months behind like 8 months. The bolt closes half way and when the trigger is pulled it puts a small dent in the primer and the safety will not move to safe.

Does anyone know a gunsmith that could take care of this in a decent turn around time? As of now Im not impressed with winchester.

OK my guess would be the scope base mounting screws, make sure they’re not protruding all the way through the top of the action and into the cavity where the bolt rotates. If it’s not the scope base mounting screws then check to see if the screw that holds the action to the stock is protruding into the bolt cavity.

Thankyou sirs. Will the safety work with the bolt out of the gun or does the bolt have to be cocked before safety will work?
Daryl P.

the cocking piece needs to land on the trigger for the safety to get enough room to rotate. so no it wont work with the bolt out. has the trigger been messed with? i wish you were closer i would fix it for you.

If it's made when the Win plant was closing, you might be good, might not.

Yep, safety problems, chambering problems, no doubt scope and mounting problems yet to come. Why would you need the safety to work if the bolt is out of the gun.

Bringing er back up.

Be a shame to let this thread go away without finding out why the Winny bolt does this, but don't do this. The safety does this, but don't do this. And the firing pin does this, but don't do this.

Did I miss anything?
