winchester black talon info

Hey Mark,
The civil part of the statute is right here

Quote: 18-1-704.5.  Use of deadly physical force against an intruder.
The general assembly hereby recognizes that the citizens of Colorado have a right to expect absolute safety within their own homes.

Notwithstanding the provisions of section 18-1-704, any occupant of a dwelling is justified in using any degree of physical force, including deadly physical force, against another person when that other person has made an unlawful entry into the dwelling, and when the occupant has a reasonable belief that such other person has committed a crime in the dwelling in addition to the uninvited entry, or is committing or intends to commit a crime against a person or property in addition to the uninvited entry, and when the occupant reasonably believes that such other person might use any physical force, no matter how slight, against any occupant.

Any occupant of a dwelling using physical force, including deadly physical force, in accordance with the provisions of subsection (2) of this section shall be immune from criminal prosecution for the use of such force.

Any occupant of a dwelling using physical force, including deadly physical force, in accordance with the provisions of subsection (2) of this section shall be immune from any civil liability for injuries or death resulting from the use of such force.

Its technically the same thing here, Castle Doctrine.

Seems pretty clear to me!
Thanks for posting that.

Don't know why I didn't remember that when we were talking about it yesterday... oh well.

That should cover you using whatever type of bullet you want in your own home, even a 155mm Howitzer! It won't end the discussion because you can use deadly force to protect yourself, stop violent crimes such as armed robbery, rapes, kidnappings etc in Colorado outside of your dwelling.

I just looked and mine appear to be gold dots.

Is that one of those oxymorons?

The first trip I made to Front Sight, one of the lectures on use of deadly force included a comment that in the event you are forced to shoot someone, you should file a civil suit against their family immediately to nip it in the bud. As horrible as that sounds, think about it. If you defend the lives of your family, your lier...oops, I meant lawyer is going to own your life savings. If you should get out of that one, now you have to worry about the dirtbags family looking to get rich so now the lawyer gets your house and kids college fund.
Did they reccommend using store bought ammo only? I think that is where this discussion was headed. As Claimbuster mentiond, a justifiable shooting is just that. But wether or not a Lawyer could use reloaded ammo against you,vs the deadliest Store bought ammo was my concern. In a trial the Jackals "lawyers" will try to eat you. Im just thinking that the theory can go both ways. Store bought, or reloaded.
Yes they did as most of the sources out there do in the training I've been to. I think someone mentioned here that Massad Ayoob stated that it hasn't ever been actually brought in a case but you never know. The same question was asked on Armed American Radio a while back of one of the manufacturers of PD ammo since they had a rather un PC name. That's where I heard Massad discussing this same issue. That said, I'll still carry factor ammo for PD just so there is one less thing to worry about with a lier oops, meant lawyer.

I get my Ranger Talons from TDS-us.com

Due to the uproar over the name, Winchester dropped the "Black Talon" designation and I think it's the same bullet as the STX that replaced it.. Winchester doesn't seem to offer it anymore either...

Old Turtle you are right there. Winchester was getting a lot of heat for the black talon and it's aggressive advertising. There were calls for legislation to ban the bullet. The original black talon was an 8 pedal design with a lubalox coating. Winchester, at the time was redesigning the bullet. Some of the pedals in the peltal design were shearing off during expansion. Winchester, very wisely, removed the bullet from the civilian market first, then from the police market. The bullet ban crowd relaxed a little bit with their 'win' and quieted down. What Winchester replaced it with was simply the SXT. the SXT is the newly designed bullet with 6 petals instead of 8 and no lubalox. What does SXT mean? Supreme Expansion Talon. The newest box I have is simply marked 165 gr T-series (40 S&W). Same bullet.

As far as shootings go, it has been my experience that (police) shootings pretty much break down to good shoots or bad shoots. If it is a good shoot, after the invest, coroners inquiry and/or grand jury, good shoots go away. Bad shoots don't. intentional civilian shootings (not bad guy on bad guy) are incredibly rare. If a person involved in a shooting could demonstrate that he or she HAD to shoot someone to protect his or her LIFE or the life of another, I don't think hand loads would make a huge difference.

just my opinion/experience.
