Winchester M70 223 WSSM

I got a Win M70 Coyote in .22-250 that shoots the Winchester (cheap) white box ammo 45gr HP into 3/4" @ 100yds

Well, apparently with this rifle it depends on luck. I've got a Win Coyote in .243real pretty w/stainless bbl. Had it about 2 yrs and I've tried every bullet / load possible maybe. Shoots terrible. So bad I just put it away and didn't try to dump it on anyone else. Best group ever was about six inch at 100 yds from the bench and rest. For my money it was good bye to ever owning or touching a Winchester rifle again, not even on a bad day. Makes a great weight to hold down the closet though - don't waste space in the gun safe, there you can find the real rifles, Remingtons, etc. I'm replacing this one today with a model 700 .243, finally. My least expensive Rem (.270 ADL) shoots 3 shots touching every time at 100 yd..a big diff. I was hoping someone might steal the thing then I could report it to homeowners ins....

Can anyone tell me how I can get Winchester to act???????????????????????? I have a .223 wssm Coyote, real pretty also, that shoots worse than a shotgun. My groups are 20+" at 100yds and I'm lucky to hit a beer can at 30yds. I have had the rifle since Jan of 04. I tried everything in the beginning. Talked to Sierra techs three times for over 20 minutes each time. Did this & that... Finnally called Winchester and before I could get it .223 ws... out of my mouth the lasy said "yes we have a recall on those". Took my info & said they would send a box. Bullcrap. Havn't seen it yet & I have called two more times since with no results.

How did you guys get anything done?

I have 3 other Win rifles and all of them are great quality firearms. I however don't think much of the Win factory right now though. They will not be getting anymore of my $!

Sorry my 1st post had to be a vent...

Any suggestions from you guys would be GREATLY appreciated.
Thanks!!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bowingsmilie.gif

Coleridge,

I think I see your problem in your post "lucky to hit a beer can at 30yds". Try having the beer AFTER your range session LOL. Just kidding!!!

I called twice a week, sometimes 3 times, and tried to speak to the same rep each time. I was polite each time, and asked him if there was anything he could do to speed up the repairs, I would greatly appreciate it. Worked for me.

K,

I was wondering if I would get any licks for that comment. I was just using it as a reference of size, glad to see that you understood that.

Guess I was not annoying enough with them (Winchester). I’ll try that starting today. Thanks for the advice!!!!

Anymore?

Mine shoots great--sub inch groups at 150yds plus.
All I did was replace the barrel with a Dan Lilja barrel, replace the action with a Remington 700, and rechamber it to a 22-250. Works fine

lap that barrel. I have a win mod 70 308 could not get it to shoot less than .75 inch with hand loads. lapped the barrel with some JB now it shoot bugholes.

Waxman,

I have not yet tried the factory ammo Win used. After shimming the receiver to make the barrel free-floating, I shot a 5 shot, 2" group using 2 different bullets. I also waited 3-4 minutes between shots to let the barrel cool down. My next step will be open up the barrel channel to free-float it and shoot again. I will take some factory stuff with to try.
