Hello All,

I am a new predator hunter and just found your forum. I have an opportunity to buy a Winchester Model 70 223 WSSM for 400.00 and was wondering if this is a good deal. I'm also wondering what factory load would be best for coyotes as I would like to keep the fur. Thanks for you help.

If the seller will let you return the gun and get all your money back if it does not shoot to your standards, go for it. Do some research if that is a good price.

A few words of caution; my son owned a Win Shadow in 223wssm up until last month. It was the worst shooting rifle I have ever encountered. He sent it back to Win for this reason and they sent it back saying it met specs. Patterns were ususlly 6-12", sometimes more (like off the target) and only one, repeat one, load shot about 2".

He traded it for a Browning in 223wssm, and this one shoots very well. First load got a 1 3/4" groups @ 200yds.

Do a search on this and other forums, and decide if you want to pursue this gun.

I have Mod. 70 223 WSSM, you can't keep in in a wash tub at 100 yds. I is the worst shooting rifle I have ever owned. All of my pistol contenders will outshoot it.I will never buy a win. again. I sent it back to win.they sent back a different one and it still won't shoot. Just make sure you can get your money back.

Thanks for the replies. Sounds like I might want to steer away from this one. I am also looking at the Stevens 200 in 223. I have heard good things about this weapon (for its price) and will be checking one out in the next couple of days

Uhh, Blackjaw, please don't take this the wrong way, but, in the future, don't refer to our firearms as 'weapons'.
Weapons are used to kill or maim humans, and the non-shooting public has a fear of 'weapons'.

Is it just me, or am I to sensitive about this?

I also had a .223 WSSM Winchester super shadow. It shot about like a Ruger minnie 14. It would stay on a paper plate at 100 yds. but thats about all it would do.

Sounds to me like it is the shooters that aint doing there job! I just sold a super shadow 223wssm and it shot great for what it was! Way better than any mini14. I just shot factory ammo through it and i could keep every shot all day long in a 2" shoot and see target at 200 yards and could shoot great groups at 100.

So dont believe everything you hear because some people aint the best shots! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/angry-smiley-055.gif

The only thing you can do is try it for your self. You can always get rid of it if you dont like it. And thats the only way you can know for sure what you want!

I know people on here are trying to help but you cant believe something just cause you hear it! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif
