Winchester SX3...

Looking to buy a new shotgun since the Mossberg 930 turned out to be waste of time and money. Been looking at the SX3 shotguns and they seem to be like some pretty decent guns. Have been lookin at the SX3 Black Shadow the most out of the SX3 models. Was wondering who all owns a SX3 and how do you like them?

Will be my predator gun along with goose and the occisonal(sp) upland bird hunts. No dragging threw the swamps going after ducks. Only time I'll use for geese in when I know Im gonna go sit in a dry field.

Thanks,
Luke

Most people seem to like theirs. My son had one that was a real lemon. I guess all companies produce a bad one now and again and my son happened to get one of those. I do think it was the exception though and as I said, most guys really like the SX3.

I can't honestly speak to the SX3 as I have not owned or shot one..
I will say: I own a Remington 870 that is the only gun that has ever failed me.
My old Remington Model 31 pumps (and I have 5) have NEVER failed to perform as expected.
My Benelli super 90 12 Ga has never failed to operate as expected. It suits me well. My son wants it . I told him he'll get it when I die or, when I get too old which ever comes first. I also have a Beretta 391 in 20 Ga. that is an absolute dream... fits me like a glove.
I have heard the SX3 is one h377 of a shotgun, as reliable as they come.
If the shotgun fits go for it. Fit.... is the MOST important element when it comes to hitting your target with a shotgun.
Most of the shotguns made today are very reliable and will provide years of reliable service. One must find the gun FITS and allows the shooter to hit his intended target.
Best of luck with your choice.

I have shot both the SX3 (2 -3/4" - 3") 26" barrel and FN SLP (similar to the SX2)(2-3/4" -3")(22" barrel?), To me the SX3 pointed easier due to the lighter weight and slimmer lines.

Durability just from a feel no long term results the FN "felt" like it would last longer and take more abuse. I prefer the shorter barrel length as well as the magazine extension (you can plug it obviously for hunting game species). If it were me I would see what I could pick up cheaper and go that way.

Reliability - both were very reliable with a variety of cheap wally-world ammo and multiple shooters. More of the shooter shot well with the SX3 though YMMV

You know the browning gold is mostly the same gun as the SX3. Browning just has a better stock and the barrel is backbored. Most parts are interchangable. Should make finding parts easier if needed.

Browning Gold or Browning Silver?

So for those that have shot the SX3 does it cycle 2 3/4" loads fine too? I've just heard that shotguns that have a 3 1/2" chamber somtimes dont always cycle 2 3/4" loads?

Also plan on buying the all black synethic(sp) then sending it off to Black Ice Coatings to get dipped. I to have had problems with the factory camo paint chipping off or rubbing off on other guns. Sucks covering up the company's logo's and what not they have on the gun but would rather have it camoed up and not have to worry bout it chipping/rubbing off.

I believe she SX3 and the browning silver are the same. The gold has the magazine cutoff and speed load feature but I could be wrong. My dad has had the sx3 for a couple of years and really likes it. I dont think he has shot many light loads through it but it feeds the 3.5 loads just fine. If it were me I would go with the browning maxus over the others. I bought one a couple of weeks ago and I have put about 200 rounds through it and so far it has fed everything Ive put in it. I havent shot any 7/8oz loads in it but have shot 1oz up to 3.5" buckshot. I dont think yo could go wrong with any of them though they are all very nice guns.

Bought mine the year it came out. I'm a hard on equipment duck hunter and put it thru the test. Didn't clean it and it lasted from sept1 to feb 1 hunting minimum of 3 days a week with some weeks being a lot more hunting while in college. Never had a jam since then my hunting buddies have picked up there's 5 sx3s and 2 sx2s in our group and only 3 jams I know of. None of which have been from mine and it cycles 2 3/4 dove loads as flawlessly as 3 1/2 dead coyote shells. The one jam I have witnessed with my brothers sx2 was when he was floating a shell for snow geese. Ill never own another auto until a sx4 comes out!

Correct. I use a pure gold improved modified for everything (its in between modified and full) and have no problems dropping yotes. Farthest shot has been 45 yds. The kicks waterfowl choke is also a great patterning choke for any goose loads up to BBBs. It has an overbore so it knocks the kick down with 3 1/2s very well. My favorte patterning load has been the fiocchi 3 1/2 inch 1s for steel or the 1 9/16 oz bbbs. Mine is used and abused. Shot 3 cases of waterfowl loads thru last year add few cases of lead for doves and sporting clays and not a jam... I can't speak highly enough for this gun I've owned about every brand of shotgun imaginable and have traded them off at the first sign of malfunctioning. This is only gun I've had that has lasted 2 yrs and it is going into its 4th season

Maybe take a look at the Browning Maxus as well. Virtually the same gun as the SX3, but I liked the finishing more. Think you would be happy either way.

I shot an SX3 for a couple of years over, 2 years I probly put 5-6 cases of shells through it from 1 1/8oz dove loads to 1 9/16 oz duck and goose loads and had very few issues with it. I shot several tripples with that gun dove hunting. The only reason that I let it go was that I got rid of all of my plastic guns......

I bought a SX3 with the wood stock/gun metal gray finish this summer, and so far all I have shot out of it is cheap 7/8 ounce shells. Not one hiccup yet, but I only have 70-75 rounds through it. I primarily bought it for getting back into shooting trap.

I might take it out and shoot some late season roosters with it.....

There is s gunsmith here just about all the custom turkey guns are S X 3's. They say the best pattern shotgun out there. I am buying one in a 26 inch barrel after the first of the yr in black or camo. Vm
