Wind plex or fine duplex

Good morning
I got a CZ527 in .223 for Christmas, beautiful gun. I put a cheap cabelas 3x12 and headed to the range to see if she's worthy of a nice Leopold. Well I'm impressed.

I'm looking at a Leopold vx2 or vx3, I like the idea of the CDS but not sold on the wind plex thing.
Vx2,vx3 or mark ar with a fine duplex ?
I want at least up to 12 power.
Leopold only.
What would you buy???

It's hard to compare Leupold's reticles based on their Web site images. Some images are zoomed in, some are zoomed out, some are just drawings. What does the wind plex ACTUALLY look like thru the scope? Who knows... Leupold needs to fix that.

I have the wind plex on a 270, it's a nice reticle but a little heavier than I like especially for predators. I like the Varmint Hunter reticle in a 4.5-14x. That's what's on my 204 and I'm ok with the field of view for that rifle, only 20ft at 100yds. The TMOA reticle they have is my favorite. I have a VX-6 on my 264 win mag with the CDS and that reticle. The only thing I can say bad about it is that its a little bulky but the light gathering is good enough I don't mind. That gun gets used for all my flat country deer and antelope hunting, the 270 gets carried on steeper hunts.

I know you said Leupold only, but the Vortex scopes are awful nice for the money. The Viper 4-16x44 on my 6mm I use for calling open country has a 30ft field of view at 100yds, a lot more than the Leupold 4.5-14x. I haven't had trouble finding closer critters in the 4.5-14 but its something to consider when buying new. The 3-18x VX-6 has like 38ft I think, have to check their site to be sure.

Hope my rambling helps!

I've never looked through a windless reticle. My guess is it's to heavy for me.
Vortex
We'll I've never owned one, I've looked at them. A coworker spent big $$ on one, I heard about for a week!
It had to go back (wouldn't track).
Kinda want to stay with Leopold.

My vote would be the vx 2 with the fine duplex. That windplex looks a little too busy for me. I have have the 4x12 and it is on my go to predator gun.

I got one for hunting coyotes 4.5 X 14 VX3 LR CDS with wind plex 1 week after I got it I sent it to Leupold and had the wind plex changed to a fine duplex. Never again. Too thick on the cross hair. Love the fine duplex.

My vote would be for the VX-2 4-12x40 FD. If you think you are going to need to dial wind adjustments, go with the Mark AR 4-12x40 FD. Pretty much the same glass, although with MOA and Mil adjustments, respectively.

My early x-mas present (to myself

was a VX6 2-12 with the firedot duplex. Quite possibly the perfect all around hunting scope and the variable intensity red dot is outstanding for low light and aging eyes. Kind of pricey but I expect it to last my lifetime since I am still shooting Leupolds I bought over 30yrs ago.

I wouldn't go too big on the scope. Certainly no larger than a 3-9. A cz527 is my main predator rig. Anything large kinda defeats the purpose of the compact and trim size of the rifle....id be looking along the lines of a vx2 2-7x33

Just my opinion
