Wishing for a predator hunting vest...

All right guys… ponder this. I know a lot of guys that use fanny packs (like me) and turkey vest to carry around their predator hunting gear, but if you could buy a vest for predator hunting... what features would you want it to have? My list of features takes up a page!!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I have found that my Primos bow hunting vest is pretty handy for carrying my calls and smaller items. Many easy to access small pockets and can be worn over heavy clothing. I use an old military rucksack with frame to carry my Foxpro, spotlight and decoy.

A turkey vest would work fine for me but I would like it in some kind of western type camo. Like seculison, everywear, or ghost camo

I've got an old Photographers kahki vest that has a bunch of various sized pockets. A little camo patching on it and it would be great. Thanks for bringing it up.. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

I have one on order through dear old mom. She made me a blaze/realtree one for deer season last year that is the berries. She is a pretty good seamstress, so it takes her no time. She even made it with some waterproof material, so it helps keep a lil more moisture off of ya. She got the pattern at a local fabric shop, JoAnn's or something like that if anyone is interested. I had her make a few changes to it, just to set it up for deer hunting. Can't wait til she gets started on the other one.

I've got a Turkey vest I picked up at Walmart. Plenty of room for everything. However, my last trip out, I learned I really don't need to carry all of the stuff I carry anyway.

Amen,

I would like to see one in M.O. Brush cammo, with retractable, high quality lanyards (like Fly fishing vests), call retainer loops (kind of like shotgun shell holders) and lots of pockets big and long enough for a remote control/digital camera, etc. The seat and back cushions should be covered with waterproof Cordura or something along that line and should have multiple pouches for chemical hand/body warmer inserts. Also, what's with the black web belts on cammo back packs and the like? LOSE THEM. We need O. D. or brown. Yesterday (My last hunt of the season) I looked back toward my partner as he got into our stand position while I laid out the decoy and remote. What stood out? The black web belts on his pack...otherwise he was invisble. Add these to the aforementioned posts ideas and you'd be on to something you could sell 6 months or better a year. No doubt.

I have seen that turkey hunting vest at Wal-Mart and it is decent....but WAY to green for my part of the country...EVEN in turkey sesaon.

I wear a Blackhawk Omega Tactical Crossdraw, olive drab. I have plent of utility pockets for calls, lighters, ammo, etc, have the crossdraw for my XD-40 backup and spare mag, room to expand and add on other gear. I say its worth a try I paid $65 for mine shipped on ebay brand new and had it in 2 days.

I found that no matter how much junk I carry to a stand, Theres always something that I left in the truck or at home. Even if I had a 48 pocket vest I would still need something I didn't bring.

I have another I bought several years ago that is mostly brown (fall colors). Last spring I got busted by bird agter bird. After two days of that, I realized my camo bug suit blended in great with the cedars, but that brown camo stuck out like a sore thumb! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif

I have worn my old entry vest simular to FordTruck's Omega I liked it for awile but a range bag or fanny bag seems to be easyer on the back while sitting for long times.
I like the idea of a turkey vest though.
Mike

I realize that the original post was about a hunting vest. I used a hunting vest until I started using a remote caller and a decoy. I needed something to transport everything I needed so I purchased an inexpensive field bag from Wal Mart. Bag is only 16 inches wide by 10 inches tall and with all my "stuff" weighs less than 5 lbs.

Field bag with all my "stuff" inside.

JAMaidens - hope you don't mind me expanding your original post. I thought about starting a new post but you already had a good one going.

Anyway "it's all about having your stuff with you when you need it".

I use a Hunters Specialties SUV. I love it.Its like a turkey vest but with just big pockets.. Ive tried the ones with the built in back rest and there just a pain when you were alot of clothes.

Steve, I was looking at one of those at work the other day... it has a lot of green. It would be a great turkey vest, but I don't know if the green will let me hide in the dead of winter? I am just tired of using a fanny pack...

Guys, I finally broke down and bought a vest a couple days ago. Just started messing with it tonight. It is a RedHead "Striker Vest" for turkey hunting. I looked it over and found it could be "fixed up" for what I wanted.

It is a very expandable vest... for heavy coats, or just a jacket.

This is the left side of the vest, the pockets are designed for slates, strikers, and a box call.

I put my large howler in the box call pocket, a couple howlers in the striker flap (notice the lanyards on the calls, they are tied to the shoulder strap), and some smaller calls in the slate pockets.

I am going to head out on Wednesday, I will let ya'll know how she works out! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I do know that a major call manufacturer is developing one and possibly could be out in the fall but I'm sworn to secrecy! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif
