wisker biscuit vs. trophy taker arrow rests

My wife as a new bow on order!

We were thinking wisker biscuit, but the guy at the pro shop says a Trophy Taker drop away , would be better.
What do you use and why?

I used to use the original whisker biscuit, that I trimmed, and I really liked it and have several friends that have used it, and now have the new and improved, softer bristle, biscuit, and they love it. I now use the Trophy Ridge drop away, used it all last winter, and I don't have any complaints about it. I'm not really even sure why I changed for the WB, guess I was ready to try something new. I think either one of the choices are better than the TM style rest. I've never had an arrow fall off of my TR drop away, and obviously, that can't happen with the WB!
I have also changed to the blazer vanes, which are taller than the other vanes I was using, and these vanes would have too much contact in a WB for sure. Matter of fact, I have to have a [beeep] vane now because if I shoot an arrow with blazer vanes and have a vane straight down, it will contact the rest on the way by. That was one reason that I went to the WB, because there was no need for a [beeep] vane, unlike the TM style rests.
One really nice feature about the WB, no moving parts. Although my drop away hasn't burned me yet, knock on wood!!
 
I still use the old TM style and aluminum arrows /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif.

Some friends of mine swear by the whisker biscuit as well. You can shoot any angle and the arrow wont fall off rest plus its silent. The contact with the vanes didnt seem to bother accuracy.

My brother just got a drop away (dont recall the name) but it was a bit difficult for me to tune, it was one with the line attached so when you draw back it lifted the rest. I'm not a fan of anything mechanical but the concept of the rest does make sense, the less contact = better arrow flight.

Good luck in your decision, if I was to buy a new one it would be the WB and like songdog stated either one is better than the TM I'm still using lol.

Look into a Ripcord rest. Made here in MT. Easy to set up work flawlessly. I like them cause your arrow can't fall off the rest even if your shooting up side down, and they work really well from novilty speed shooting to hunting to 3-D shooting. I have around 2,000 arrows through mine and has not failed me yet. The whisker biscuit is a fair choice, the only thing I don't like about it is I can't watch the flight of my arrow( for tuning purposes).
 
I personally would stay away from the whisker biscuit. I used one a while back for quite some time and while it was nice that it held your arrow securely it was hell on my fletchings, but then again I shot A LOT. It also will slow your arrow speed down a little bit especially if it gets wet or dirty. I use a fall away rest (the brand eludes me at the moment) and I haven't had one complaint about it. If I were you though I might take a look at that Ripcord rest that Smith mentioned. I just took a look at it and it looks to be pretty sweet, the best of both worlds. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

No experience with the whisker biscuit, so I can not comment on it but I do have quite abit of experience with the trophy taker and it is a very good rest and is reliable as any if properly set up. The key to this rest is to have it rise in the last 1" to 2" of arrow travel.

I have shot hundereds maybe thousands through this rest while practicing without a hitch,but once drew back on a deer and the arrow flew up and off my rest blowing the shot. Buck fever made me draw the bow so fast that it nocked the arrow off. I thought I would pass this on so maybe someone could learn from my mistake.
 
I just read in a Bowhunting Mag that if you put a little Armorall on your plastic fletching it will help them go through the whisker bisquit rest and reduce the wear on the fletching. Just a thought!
 
Just my .02cents but I've been shooting a wisker biscuit for the last five years and have had no problems whatsoever.I think they are a great hunting rest.I put a new biscuit with the quickshot kit on my Mathews Outback last year and love it.I shoot easton a/c/c's with plastic vanes.No problems and great accuracy. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
 
Never shot a whisker biscuit, but the new Martin Cougar Magnum I just got has the trophy taker drop away rest.

I can tell that I really like it, and so far can't really see any negatives. I have not had it "fall off the rest" yet, and don't really see it happening. It does not seem to have any effect on arrow flight at all, that I can tell.
 
I love my Buscuit, but it is personal to what you like. The one thing I have tried and really would not do without is the NoPeep. Look them up and try it out. This thing takes the place of your peep sight, and once you have it set its done.
