Wolf bullets

You're supposed to use a bigger gun for wolf hunting than a 223. I would just use your 270, simple solution. A shot at a wolf is very precious, they don't come easy. I remember a thread in the hunting section from a few years ago about a wolf lost when hit with a less than ideal bullet. My choice would be a 243 as a minimum, with a good bullet.

I'm not big on thinking quick follow-up shots will save you either.
 
These are what I used on 221 FB for my wolf hunts in Canada... They were extremely effective.

I ordered some 55 grain sierra gamekings. If it doesn't shoot them I can use them in my AR.Otherwise might have to drag the 270 around with me
 
I have no doubts that bullet can kill a wolf.

That said, I also have no doubts that I would still opt for something tougher like a TSX or Partition, given the small caliber.

You definitely won't regret getting these. They're as accurate as accurate can be in my rifle and I've heard the same from most everyone I've talked with about them.

I shot a wolf in the chest with an 80gr TTSX out of my 243, never recovered it. It dropped at the shot but got up and ran. I know I hit it right, my spotter saw the bullet hit it. Wolves are tough critters and I also had problems with the 80gr TTSX on deer so I no longer use it. The second wolf I harvested I took with my 300saum and a 168TTSX, that worked a lot better.

I have seen lesser weight TSXs shoot lengthwise through large whitetail. You shoot a wolf or deer with an 80gr TSX and the only way it doesn't die is if you hit poorly.....JMO
 
I used 30-06 150gr ttsx on my last elk, dropped like it was struck by lightning. Same story with every light bullet out of my 25-06. I havent recovered one yet. I imagine the elk round would go through 4-5 wolves if they were lined up properly.
