Wolf hunt

Myself and two of my friends r going on a wolf hunt in March up in Ontario. I am so excited I can hardly stand it. We are going with Peter Martin of kap river retrievers. I keep having dreams about this place and hunting wolves it's going to be a long 3 months.

For me, the hunt starts when you get serious about the planning. Sounds like yours is well under way. Standing by for the conclusion. Best of luck. I hope to go in the fall.

Good luck bud, I was up there tracking wolves for 6 seasons and the first week of March is usually really good. It can still be good after that but you start running the chance of having a snow crust which makes tracking difficult.

Awesome! I am taking a break this weekend after deer and elk hunting that ended last weekend. Went hard trying to fill tags from the end of October to the 1st of December. Hopefully in the coming weeks, I'll get out to look for a wolf to put my tag on! What rifles are you going to use? I'll probably carry my Tikka t3 270 win with 130gr accubonds, or Rem 700 243 with 95gr berger VLDs

I'll be using a 6x47 lapua and my 243 win. with some 100gr hornady interlocks or the 95 gr Berger vld. I'm going to bring 2 rifles just in case I have a malfunction. Or one of my buddies has a malfunction.

It's been exactly 3 months since I posted this and it's finally here. Tomorrow we leave for kapuskasing Ontario for a week long adventure!!!!!!!

I'm originally from Ontario and shot a wolf near Thunder Bay it was about 6 1/2' long and probably weighed 125-150 lbs.

I also saw one other near Timmins it was on a moose carcass. Those are only 2 I ever saw they are elusive.

Good luck.

Here are some pics of my wolf hunt with Peter Martin of Kap river outfitters. I did not kill a wolf the wolf I'm holding is one another guy shot. This was the best hunt I have ever been on Peter Martin is an amazing man John Wayne and Chuck Norris don't even come close to this man. He knows a wolf better than a wolf knows him self he had truly amazing trackers that did not give up EVER!!! These MEN start their day with Peter opening up their bedroom door at 4:30am saying get up and then I would hear some grumbling Hahahaha. At first light we were at the first bait with Peter going in and checking for fresh tracks then him saying get them dressed. You would grab your rifle and hop into a sled behind a snowmobile and off you would go the guides and Peter would place you in specific points where these wolves and others have snuck away before and the trackers going in and getting on the fresh tracks and fallowing them and chasing them out across a river a lake or clear cut where you would wait. Now this seems like a crap shoot on where the wolf would run out but that's where Peters knowledge came into play the trackers wore dog tracking collars and peter could see where the wolf was moving and then he knew where it would cross and then move a person to a different spot. We were sooooooooo close to killing our wolves it wasn't even funny one of my hunting partners had one at 50yds but the wolf pegged him and stood in the thick brush he took a shot and gave the wolf a close shave and my other partner had one come right to the edge of a river at 280yds to cross and turned around and jumped back into the brush before he had an opportunity to get a shot and on our last day I had my chance. The tracker got on a fresh track and started hooting and making noise so you knew where he was and where the wolf was going and he was coming right at me as the the tracker got closer and closer my heart began to pound harder and harder and harder I had one little curve in the trail to my left and a big open creek out in front of me so I aimed my rifle for the trail figuring if the wolf crossed the big opening I would have more time to swing on him for a shot. The trackers voice got louder and louder and I could tell he was getting closer and closer to the trail and I knew the wolf was heading for the trail I readied myself for the shot. Remember the little curve well the wolf walked out on the trail walked down it for about 100yds then stepped off the trail down the ditch and into the bush if would have five more steps I would have seen him. The tracker broke from the bush and started cursing I knew exactly what had happened I was crushed it was my last chance. I started to walk down there and Peter had drove up to the tracker and was more disgusted than myself I could hear him saying inches only inches more and we would have got that bastard and all the hard work the trackers did in snow that was waist deep or more everywhere I felt horrible for them they tried sooooooo hard to get us our wolves and things didn't line up we should have easily killed 3 wolves if one thing or another would have lined up but that's hunting

. We had a such a great time it was fun and a true adventure with a wolf hunting legend Peter Martin!!!!

Here are a couple more pics.

I have some more stories to tell about the wolf that Pennsylvania Pete shot too but I gotta get some sleep.

I am from Thunder Bay and killed one earlier in the winter. We have two more weeks left and have been seeing 3 of them fairly regular. Just a matter of coming across one at the right time. We are starting to see them closer to town due to the high number of deer within the city.

Ryan I don't think a guy could do that hunt without those two things you would be soaked and cold and your gun would be frozen solid thanks for all the advice you gave Peter spoke very highly of you he said you were an excellent guide and an extremely good predator caller he told me a couple of stories of you calling in wolves. I did try doing some calling but never called in any wolves but down on the south end of the cargill road we called in a lynx and had a pretty good show he came into about 10 yds and wouldn't leave even after we stood up and made some noise.
