Wolf hunting in Idaho

You have to buy an Idaho non-resident hunting license(154.00$), then the wolf tag for non-resident(32.00$ a piece), you are eligible for 2 tags. Out the door cost was like 218.00$. Tags and license are good for the calender year. Most units close on the 31st of this month, and 2 remain open till the end of June. All areas open again on August 1st if I recall.

Check this site out. I was raised in Morgan as well, 28 years

So then licenses and tags are good for a calendar year, not a hunting season. That's good to know. If I buy a tag this spring it will be good thru Dec for "next" year's wolf season. I guess the bummer is that if I wait to get one in the fall and I hunt during my christmas break in Dec I can't use that tag if I get a random weekend after the new year. Hmmm I'll have to do some strategic planning on this, I can't go throwing $200 around left and right...medical school is expensive!

Thanks, I hope to hear more about your adventures.

Season's reopen Aug 30th, by the way.

phutch is correct. The season is now closed. FWP is not even going to vote on the proposed changes until the July commission meeting. Hopefully, prices will go down, quotas will go up and electronic calls will be allowed. Having these @#$#@@# lions come in to my mouth calls is a bit unnerving.

As of Friday afternoon there were only two wolves left in the salmon unit, closes on the 31st. Shooting for the first weekend in April, headed to the selway lolo units, got a new spotting scope hopefully it will net some results. Any advise for those areas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Bobby

That would make me the third one in this post that grew up in Morgan.

Please correct me if I'm wrong but on the Idaho fish and game wolf harvest information website it shows the selway/lolo units open for firearms until June 30th. Please remark if I'm wrong, I sure wouldn't want to drive all the way up and then find out that I'm not able to hunt. This is the website Idaho fish and game

The web site does say that those two units are open until the end of June. I would go by what their site says, not something you are told here.

I too read it that way, I agree with reb8600...go git-r-dun. I wish I could join you, I may give it a try in may after finals.

That's funny

Guess I better go do some oversized coyote hunting. Can't kill a wolf if we don't have any right?

Jarhead,

Pick me up on your way!! That is if a Marine could handle sitting a stand with a Soldier.

I am sure I can handle it. My brother is in the Stan right now he is an Army medic.

Old thread, but rest assured this is still a major problem in our state. Spent 9 days on a hunt in the Sawtooth Zone this past year and didn't see a single bull elk. Saw some cows, but heard wolves howling several days during our hunt. Went back for last weekend of the season and followed two sets of wolf tracks for 40 miles on 4-wheelers. But unfortunately we never had a chance to put a single one in our crosshairs.
