Wolf in Kansas?? Surely Not!

Man what a cool story. My dad was a greyhound guy and told me many times when the hunted in western ks they would catch very big yotes. This was the 70s and early 80s.

When will the Biologist give you some info ? that is a huge Animal for sure , I am very interested in what they have to say , I read a few posts back where someone said 100% coyote is that correct ?

And I thought mine was big!! You got me beat!

You're probably just a 5'3" runt, you'd make any yote look big.

We get BIG ones here in SW Florida. 70 lbs is nothing special. Ill tell you this much, I called one in Thanksgiving morning from 600 yards out, he kept getting bigger and bigger in my riflescope, I shot him at 80 yards, he did the dance and bit his side, ran in a circle then stopped and stared at me! I shot him again, he danced and took off! The 3rd shot missed.. He was huge.. I use my 243 now. The 223 with 55 gr wasnt enough. Here is a pic of one that is 60+ ol' 243 stopped him good..

Kansas220Swift & TLANG...

I for one, will truly be interested to know what the results of the DNA & other info ends up being.
PLEASE, keep us updated on this, thank you!

As a long-time coyote hunter (and former greyhound-er, I'm always interested in these type of things.
Back in the "old days", I remember my Dad & I catching a few really big coyotes...for Kansas.
But, DNA testing wasn't occurring back then.
And we never weighed them. Just guessed them to be around maybe 50# or so, when we'd get one.

This was killed in Iowa last year. 70 lb female. The front is a 35 lb male coyote.

You all might want to look up red wolf re stocking. I would bet its a red wolf or hybrid of red wolf and yote cross. I have seen numerous amount of tracks that big around here in the last couple years. They was trying to establish packs here in the east but it has not been successful. They been interbreeding with yotes.

I got a call from my cousin this weekend and he was informed that after the test results that it came back 100% Great Lake Wolf...

Thanks for the update. That's very interesting.

My dad & I have been "discussing" about this since December.
I had told hime about this posting.
And, he had already heard a different version of the story, thru the greyhound hunting grapevine, & insisted the version he heard "just had to be correct".

Wow..interesting. Great lake wolf, I'd assume that is the same as a grey wolf just one from northern mn or wherever?? Also, were the dogs actually able to kill this or was it shot?
Cool story..thanks for sharing
