Wolf in Medicine Hat, AB?

Well this is weird, but while driving on the trans canada I saw what I swear was a wolf. I only saw it for a couple of seconds as i was doing the speed limit, but it was in my ditch and I had a clear view of the thing.

At first I thought it was a coyote, a very big coyote, until I got much closer and I figured the thing would weight at least 70lbs if it were an ounce. It had the wrong shape, and the wrong walk to be a domestic dog, so I would have to say that it couldn't be that, but this 'wolf' was so far from any traditional wolf country that it has me confused.

I saw this 'wolf' about 40 miles to the west of Medicine Hat, Ab. I'm really starting to think I'm crazy, so thought I would post it here and maybe someone else could verify my story and say that they to have seen a wolf in this area.

Would'nt be surprised at all. They seem to be showing up in areas that they have never been seen before. So don't think you're going crazy, cause thats when it all starts. LOL

Well I think you're crazy /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif I'm not sure it has anything to do with the wolf sighting though /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

40 miles west of the Hat, Hmmmm? a guy shot a wolf about a month ago 1 1/2 hours north of there at Monitor, up near me.

I've seen two within an hour of there as well, and heard of other sightings.

They are usually solo and are likely young that have followed the rivers. We get a few cougar sightings as well.

Well I don't think you are crazy. Up here in the northeastern corner of South Dakota there was one shot in January, plus just a week ago there was one a mile north of town sighted and last week the same one was sighted 1/2 mile east of town.

I Play hockey in medicine hat and we were heading east to swift current 3 days ago. I saw what i thought was a coyote and just as you said as I got closer i relized it was a wolf. It was twice the size of a yote with black hair on the back and dark grey on the sides. I spotted it about 50 km out of town.

I live just west of Medicine Hat along the South Saskatchewan River. I've never seen a wolf down around this area. Seen a bear, moose, elk and a bunch of cougar tracks though. I wouldn't doubt there are wolves out this way. A buddy of mine shot a wolf up by Cypress Hills park last fall. First wolf in like 60 or 70 years taken up there. And thats only about 70 km's from where I am.

I think wolves have some older traditions, according to which that used to be wolf country.
