great we have them here now too.

Quote:They are a federally and state-protected animal, but hunters mistake them for coyotes, which are hunted legally in Illinois, Bluett said. Wolves have killed livestock and dogs north of Illinois, but Bluett said humans here should rest easy.

"I think the wolves have more to be afraid of from us then we have of them," he said.
Very interesting article.... If it is a lone single individual looking for new territory, that "Official" statement may be true, since someone most likely will mistake if for an extra large Coyote... But if there are mates available and they start "packing" up, then IMHO, that statement is a little polyanna..

It is a really good picture though...

my dads buddy has a few pictures he took of them off his deck walking through the edge of the woods by his back yard. He lives in northern WI so they aren't too far away so I can easily see them expanding back into IL. Until it became well known that they were around to me they would be a BIG yote.

here in colorado they have been spotted as far south as cortez
My bnl family runs cattle in the ground hog area and have occasionally spotted both wolves and grizzly bears for the last 30 yrs.

I've seen 3 seperate wolves in central Iowa. I supsect they were lone wolves, passing through. These sightings took place over many yrs span.

What is up with this topic?!?!

jlind - do you see jefo's post that was edited by a mod? He said the same thing you did.

People have been kicked off of this forum for saying that phrase.

It's stupid and illegal.

the reason people are making those illegal comments. Is because they think it is illegal for them to let those wolves take over and kill off all our biggame so the anti-hunters can shut down all hunting. Including our preciouse coyote hunting. Don't you think this is just an anti-hunting groups plan to stop hunting with this crap of letting wolves take over. And our goverment is full of them anti's. That is what a lot of people think is really what is illegal. You got to remember look at the current government crap it is totally anti- american principles but it is still happening and they will make it the law. Anything can be made the law by the crazy people we have in goverment.

Let me see if I can sift through your grammar here and figure this out. "They" want to protect wolves so that those wolves can migrate through the lower 48 and ravage the other animals. Then, that will give "them" the right to shut down all hunting?

I know that politicians do screwy things, but that makes no sense at all. It still doesn't justify doing something illegal. Some people believe that taxes are unconstitutional, but you still have to abide by the law.

"If there is predators to take care of the excess big game why do we need hunters" that is already one of there anti-hunting logos. So if you are an intellagent person maybe you need to look at what your enemy is printing, and have said. Or do you support the wiping out of big game???? I don't think the Idaho fish and game is lying about the damage to there herds as well a Wyoming and Montana. If you are thinking more wolves then maybe I can hunt one. That will be few abd far between unlike our coyote supplies and hurting big game herds. If you don't hunt big game you have no right to argue against my opinion

Well, good. I do hunt big game, so I'm glad that you granted me the right.

Intell-a-gent people can disagree on opinion.

The animal in that picture is definatly a wolf. Thats one of the better trail cam pics ive seen. Seems like every once in a while someone shoots one thinking its a coyote. Ive also read about a wolf shot in missouri that was wearing a collar from wisconsin or montana (cant remember now) so its not that big of a strech to think theyre not here. I dont think they're established but they are checking IL out. With the deer populations where they are wolves could make it here. With time its only gonna get worse. Wa_Coyote_Hunter you are right. No matter how big the wolf population gets in IL, I doubt they will let us hunt them anytime soon. We already have a decent bobcat population down south and still cant hunt them yet.
