It looks like from the list they will still make the 25 grain Varmint.
 
Ive shot the 27gr golds. very accurate, more so than the 25 gr bergers. However I was getting exits on about 1/5 coyotes so stopped using them. Maybe in a bigger.17 w/higher velocities they would stay inside. I couldnt get them to though.

Would someone care to share or PM who currently does produce 17 cal bullets for the reloader? I have had my eye on WoodChuck Den but the quality doesn't seem to be there.

Doesn't make any sense to me, but it would appear to be what is happening. Hopefully somebody will see the open market and step up to the plate.
 
Ya, hopefully, but I don't see it in the near future. They are labor intense and not a lot of money for the time spent making them. Plus, J4 jackets are very expensive. Chances are that if you priced them according to the amount of time and money you had in them no one would buy them.
Chappie (Genco Bullet Co.) is a friend of mine and I used to watch them make 17 cal. bullets in his basement. He had a nice setup with several retired fellas who helped him. It was very obvious to me there was almost zero money in it, especially for the small time guy.
Just saying all of that to say it will take a person who loves small calibers, has a lot of free time (retired maybe), and doesn't plan on it being their income.
 
The current shortage is got me holding back on another 17 right now. I wouldn't mind building myself a 17-204 to step into the spot previously occupied by my 17Tac but 30 gr bullets are like hens teeth right now and I just ain't going to fight it.

I can believe they are labor intensive but companies like Berger use automated equipment to pound them out while charging the same amount of money for them than they do some of their more popular bullets. Ting is the demand just isn't there so we get left behind.

Too bad we couldn't pressure Hornady into designing and making a decent 30gr bullet that could be priced around what their 25's are.

I found the Genco link over at Saubier. I tried to e-mail them to see if they were still making the 29gr bullets, and the e-mail came back undelivered. Do you ( or anyone else ) know if Mr. Gennett is still in business?

I agree with you. We need to put the pressure on Hornady.
 
Overall I'm happy with the 29gr Kindler's but that's all I've had a chance to try. Haven't had any issues ordering from Mr. Kindler and he was very helpful and professional. I'm not through with load development and think I can do better with some trigger work and a lightweight firing pin and spring. Still want to try AA2700, H414, tinker with seating depths, and try BR4's and 205's.

The top of the target dot in the picture is a 1" dot.
