WSSM or Grendel?

Just looking for some opinions on which is a better cartridge for coyote/cat/antelope/deer? I don't have any reloading manuals that show either one, so I haven't compared the ballistics on them. This will be an AR upper.

Thanks and good hunting to you!

I have a 243 wssm in an abolt. I would like to posses a grendel. I like it because it shoots a heavier bullet. I like my 243 alot, but would prefer a grendel.

How far will you be shooting?

Well, that's a good question. Most of my shots on predators here in SW Washington have been under 40 yards. However, I want a caliber in an AR that I can take antelope hunting next year, (don't know how close I can get to them), and maybe pop a few prarie dogs, and coyotes on the plains of Montana at around 400 yards. I am just curious as to which is a more accurate cartridge, a 25 WSSM or a 6.5 Grendel?

why not contact dtech about a 6.5 wssm, he's built a few. gotta seat them deep if you run 140's but they still outrun a grendle easily.

Wow, never even considered that as I have never heard of a 6.5 WSSM....is making brass a one step process from a 25? (Size, fire-form, and trim?) I had a contender barrel in 17/44 for awhile. Took a long time to make brass and they didn't last more than three or four firings. Really cool cartridge, sold it because I don't like five full steps (with annealing in between each) to making brass. Really don't want to get into something like that with semi auto!

How do they (6.5 WSSM/Grendel) compare with each other in the accuracy and speed department? Accuracy is much more important to me than speed, as my Dad always says..."doesn't matter how big or fast it is... if you miss".

well its only a .007" neckup, I have a 25, but don't own a 6.5, but from my wildcatting experience I'd guess just a simple neckup, and no fireforming needed

compare the grendle ballistics to a 260 rem, basicly the same performance in a short fat package, and accuracy is dertermined more by the quality of the parts, the smithwork, and reloading than the cartridge itself.

A 25 WSSM is plenty accurate and will absolutely smoke a Grendel in the ballistics dept...

+1....But if you feel the need to go slightly bigger, the 6.5wssm is also a real good canidate. You'll just have to do a little more case prep work for the 6.5.
