WSSM Wildcat Ideas?

Looking for some ideas to build a wildcat from 223 WSSM. I liked the Winchester M70 Coyote I bought so much I ordered anther. But the second one I want to built a wildcat from. Thought of maybe a 6.5 WSSM but haven't read alot on its hunting use. A BR guys liked it but the articles I found were from 2004.

Any ideas or input?

I think 6.5 or 7mm would be a dandy big game cartridge. Dtech has built AR uppers for the 6.5 WSSM and may shed some light on ballistics. Of course the Coyote weighs a ton but the wildcat would be a great kids gun on the Super Shadow platform.
 
My 6.5 WSSM is in the mail from DTech as of today. I'll be using it for everything from predator hunting up to caribou and sheep. I may even take it on my mountain goat hunt next year. I probably won't have any real world data for atleast a month or so while I work up loads, but I'd be happy to pass along what I learn when I'm done.
 
Kay9cop, you should have your upper in just a few days. I wished I would have had time to run some of those loads over a chronograph, but I will have to wait till I am shooting the next one I guess.

I have received the reamers and am awaiting the dies on some ne big-bore wildcats on the WSSM line. Indiana changed it's big-game laws to allow hunting with something other than a shotgun with slugs. So for the 2007 season, they could use a cartrige with at least a .357 diameter bullet and a case greater than 1.16" and not more than 1.625". Well, with just a slight trimming of the case, I'm going to produce a .358/25 WSSM that is big-game legal in Indiana.

When I ordered the reamer, dies and barrel-blanks, I figured I may as well dive right into it! I ordered reamers, dies and barrel-blanks to do a 7mm/25 WSSM, .300/25 WSSSM, .338/25 WSSM and the .358/25 WSSM. I've got a picture of some of them below. From left: .300, then the 7mm, 6.5, .25 and .243 WSSM.

I did bolt-guns before I ever did anything with the AR's. I made up my mind that I wasn't going to "dabble" in anything, so I specialized in the AR's. I have spent a lot of money on fixtures and tooling for the AR's, and can do a good job on them. I only do AR's through my company, but still do my own bolt-action work. (just enough to remind me that my original decision was the right one! LOL!)
 
DTech can you give us any performance info on the wildcats your creating? Velocities, ect.. Or where are you getting the info for them?
 
I did some wildcat's on the WSSM's when they first came out. Problem to me is the brass is so thick you may have to fire form a case more than once to get it blown out. Just necking them up or down may not be as much of a problem.
 
Can anyone who has done this provide more information. I am confused why so many say they have done this but won't post results........... Is there liabilty problems ect??
Can any of you that have tried this provide me a gunsmith that has done this before and might be willing to try it again.

I'm looking for a cartridge based on a WSSM that is accurate and shoots flat to 400 yards.
