I dunno, I work in WVa alot and there is some big wild country over there. I just sayin'. Those Missouri fellas could jump in any time now about not havin lions.

hey guys, i dont want to start a battle. I was just sharing the pictures and the story I was TOLD. I did not get to see this in first person nor talk to anyone about it to a great length. I just wanted to share this with ya'll and get your opinions.

thanks for all the replies and keep it civil, dang...... Interesting pictures non-the-less I think.

there's a lesson to be learned if you see one kill it or take some good pix of it. personally i'm gonna kill it and have a pic with me and a warden with it. same as bigfoot unicorns and little green men and all that junk. agin not callin anyone a liar i just think our imagination runs wild or we see something we aren't sure about and then these stories pop up. shhot it snap it show it.

Good grief, why does everyone think that a Mt. Lion could not be living in ANY area. I have seen them in a couple of places in Texas. They are cats for crying out loud. Don't you think that they can migrate??? No mountains where I have seen them. Just plain old flat land with a bunch of scrub brush and [beeep] trees. Though I did see one in west Texas in the canyon areas.

Is it me, or is that deer missing a front leg? There is a whole lot of skin missing off of that deer? Where is it? Pretty straight looking cuts on the hide as well. I dont think any predator would skin that much off too eat. Also, there isnt that much consumed off of that deer besides the hide. The tracks to me look like a big domestic dog..

Well not to step on any toes but I have seen one in WV.A dead one at that. And no I dont have any pictures because I am not dumb enough to have them in case the game wardens come looking. It is illegal to kill one in WV even though there not supposed to be here.Just my 2 cents......

First the picture is definately of a bobcat. Bobcats can and will kill deer.

The other night I had 2 cats respond to coon distress (at least I didn't see them after 10 minutes of rabbit distress until after I started the coon distress).

A written admission of guilt is just as condemning in court, although not as believable on the internet.

There was a mountain lion killed on route 50 near parkersburg 2 to 3 years ago. They had a write up in the paper about it. Woman driving to work, wacks big cat on route 50, was the jist of it.

Was it a wild cat or a released or escaped captive animal? There have been 14 mountain lions documented in Missouri since 1994 and these cats have all been DNA tested and found to be the real deal wild lions. There have been others that have been found to be captive animals that either escaped or were released.

Go to any farmer filled coffee shop in Missouri and ask if theyve seen a mt. Lion..... Only do so if you have multiple hours to waste lol... I have seen a picture of a dead calf in a tree but no Mt. Lion. Can a bobcat do that? just curious

I dont even think a Mountain Lion does that. Sounds like you have a leopard on your hands

See that right there tells the tale... Mountain lions do not carry prey up trees like African Leopards. Geezzz...

We do have atleast one mt. lion in WV. It is at the French Creek Game Farm with our resident elk and bison. We also had an African lion running loose in Greenbrier County a while back.

Man this will be a heck of a first post.

Mtn lions have home ranges that can encompass several HUNDRED square miles. There was a lion tagged with a radio telemetry collar in colorado I believe, wandered all over Kansas, and was finally hit by a car in Oklahoma. In a state that had said we had NO mtn lions prior to this. None had ever been recorded until then, or at least not in recent histroy. We now have mtn lions listed in our hunting regs. So is it so unusual that there might have been one in West Virginia? NO. Is it possible? Yes. Do I believe that is a lion kill? No.

The tracks are bobcat sized, not lion sized. Also, cats dnt "skin" the animals prior to eating. FWIW look at the nape of the neck, cats generally kill large game by either breaking the neck (in the case of a mountain lion), or by strangulation or bleeding out from the throat area (bobcat).

And to why there are no pictures... Have you tried posting a picture of an unusual and or large animal? People will jump all over you about it being photoshopped or whatever. I mean with the chupacabra/zombie/dogman trail cam pics that are circulating is it any wonder why some people might not want to post their pictures?

Another possible reason is that in many areas, if the animal is not listed in state regulations and you harvest one, that is breaking the law. So a great many could be killed each year and never reported due to this.

Just my $.02
