Xbolt vs Bar

BAR's can be finicky but I've always been able to find something they shoot well. I current have 8 BAR's ranging from 300wsm to 243 and most shoot Hornady and Federal Premium ammo very well. One thing I've learned is that the fore-end screw torque can have an impact on accuracy. It seems to me that the newer BAR's are alot less picky about what they shoot. I'll list my BARs below with what they shoot to give you an idea of what to expect..Maybe.

243 Lightweight------100gr Winchester PP(usually shoots most 100gr ammo good)
243 Grade I (1989)---100gr Federal Premium BTSP(she is alittle picky)
270 Safari-----------130gr Hornady Custom Interlock SP(also likes SST)
270 Lightweight------130gr Remington Core-Lokt(so far)
30-06 Grade I (1991)-125gr Federal Game-Shok SP
30-06 Safari---------125gr Federal Game-Shok SP(this gun is real picky)
270WSM Lightweight---130gr Federal Premium Nosler Ballistic Tip(shoots good with several loads)
300WSM Lightweight---130gr Federal Premium Nosler Ballistic Tip(only thing I've tried, shoots great)

DReif, what caliber did you decide on? If you do get a 308 then you might want to try some Federal Premium 150gr Nosler Ballistic Tip if you haven't already found a round it will shoot

I've never put a torque wrench on it due to the style of the fore-end screw but I just make sure its good and snug. Most guns come from the factory with the fore-end screw properly tightened. Most of the potential problems come after the gun has been disassembled for cleaning and after re-assembly the fore-end screw is not snugged tight enough. I believe the Hog Stalker has a different style fore-end screw than does the BAR's but if for some reason you aren't getting the groups you desire you may try snugging up the fore-end screw alittle tighter. If it feels tight don't try to over-tighten it cause you may strip or wring off the screw which is a big bummer.
 
Well folks, went to the store and......ended up with the Short Trac 308 AND a Stag Arms model 6 Varminter. Sold my Ar back in July to a friend, always kicked myself in the butt for doing that. However, I was not in the market to get one now, but the clerk said check this Ar out. I checked it out alright. Went home, put on the scopes and went to the range.

The Bar shot nice with 1" groups with factory ammo, only shot 20 rounds. Really, really pleased with this gun. The recoil is really light considering how light the rifle feels.

Now for the Stag, shot 40 rounds, I was able to get several 1/2" 3 shot groups and 1- 1/4" group. I have never shot a group that tight in my life. The ammo I used was Harnandy 55 gr. fmj, American Eagle shot around the 1/2", slightly larger group. I'd post a pic of the target, gotta figure out how to do it fist.
