Yet another 6mm choice coming soon to an AR near you

Was going to build an ARC but after hearing about the 6mm Max going to be released with factory support (Starline, PB commercial ammo, AR rifles and barrels) in November, I've decided to hold off until I see twist rates. From what I understand is that it will have a faster twist for heavier projectiles, higher case capacity, standard bolt heads, and fit in the AR 15 platform
.

Just a little teaser for some of the haters!

I saw that to but kinda turned me off when they said 3500 fps with 58 grain V max, but that was with a 20 inch barrel. I’m still leaning towards the 24 varminter which should be around 3700 with the same bullet. I was waiting to hear about case capacity but it didn’t come up.

Thanks for pointing that out. I just watched 1/2 of a youtube video and started to get frustrated at the fast talking and hype.

I get crazed every time a new caliber comes out.

After all these years i still shoot 223 REM. I suppose it is because i can go to the the range after the police are finished and pick up thousands of 1X LC brass for nothing.

It is more attractive to not need special mags and a special BCG.

For those who just found out also. I understood the cartridge is a 350 Legend necked down to 243.

I am sure it is a truly revolutionary game changer. Coyotes will pass with nary an opening of the truck door with one of those rifles inside.

6 Hagar has a 37 grain water capacity, and will spit out 55 Noslers over 3700 in my 20" tube.

Faster twist for heavier longer bullets that eat powder capacity blah, blah blah. You can't beat the hagar at mag length.

Biggest problem with the Hagar is creedmoor sports doesn't even have the brass on their web site anymore. All these 6mm new cartridges get closer to the Hagar but don't make it.

I've played with most of them, they all work and kill stuff, it's mostly splitting hairs between them.

Honestly love my 243's in the G2 lightweight platform, and if Ruger comes out with the sfar in a 243 or 6 cm, that would be one heck of a hunting platform imo.

its more like the ARC than the 6x45. but on a standard rim diamater case (350L parent)

i was wondering how long it would take someone to neck the legend case down to a bottleneck case and do something cooler with it!

How is it more like an ARC? If it's really close to a .223 case with no taper then it would be a lot closer to 6x45. 6ARC is a lot fatter of a case. Being necked down it may have to have a little taper to feed better.

Sierra has load data for the 6x45 in their legacy section.

I did a quick comparison against 223 REM. The 6x45 data is older, the 223 REM data is newer data with a pressure lab, and possibly higher capacity brass.

6x45 with 55's @ 3200 and 70's @ 3100 (Federal Brass)

223R With 55's @ 3250 and 69's @ 3000 (Winchester Brass)

Seems the advantage would be with heavier, short range bullets only. I speculate that you don't lose as much velocity when dropping down to a 20 inch barrel with the 6x45.

Higher numbers that people have reported don't impress me, as shooting over pressure is nothing special.

A quick google search led me to a site that says the base diameter of the the 350 Legend is .390, instead of the 223 REM's .376. I presume this would make the cartridge have more case capacity, or it would beef it up a little bit?

I am happy to buy Starline brass after a long wait, and no other options exist.

Greg wrote this because I incorrectly wrote that it was not.

A very old write up in an outdated Sierra manual stated that this was a wild cat.

Obviously there has been a change since.

I found our about it when I was researching my book. I was quite shocked at finding it. I own five of them and really are one of my favorite competitive rounds.

I used it in 3Gun and sniper matches in the police games. I've won a boat load of matches with it.

The book is one I've been working on covering AR chamberings and variants and how to load and make them. I probably have 150 pages or so. I need to start taking pictures for illustration.

Hey that's pretty cool, that would be an interesting read for sure.

I hope it is.

I did not realize the latest Hornady manual has load data for the 350 Legend. I read the description for the fun of it today.

They did mention a slight rebate in the rim. I suppose that "could" make it have more case capacity than say... a 6x45 with Winchester brass?

My 6X45 holds 32.53 (SPEER) The Legend claims 35. Neck it to 6 and you probably loose 1.5 to 2.0. Going to STARLINE would cost you another 0.5 to 1.5. You can run that 6X45 up to around 60,000 so that makes up some of the difference. The two would be a wash IMHO. The 6X6.8 holds 35.5 to 36.2. The 243 LBC holds 35.6 to 36.1
