i have great luck in the cascades and anyone that says there arent any coyotes on the west side is a complete and total moron! IMO

im srue there are tons of coyotes in the coast range, even though ive never hunted there i kno they're there!

good luck

i would think you would need private land to hunt meaning a farm pasture.the woods are so thick near the coast i haven't hunted there but would think its pretty rough hunting...i have no doubt that they are there i here they see coyote tracks on the beach.i would go fishing...just me though.

i wouldnt waste time hunting for them on the coast, in my opinion there isnt anough huntable and coyote type of country to hunt just head to central oregon and you'll have no problem finding places to hunt.

I have a place near Aberdeen WA and hunt from there down to the other side of the river from Astoria. You'll find plenty of coyotes and a few big and little cats mixed in.

I hunt clear cuts, logging road junctions, power lines, tidal marshes, ridge tops and river bottoms where flood waters have left gravel bars cleared.

There was a good article on hunting cats in the Cascades in Pred-X.

With the price of fuel it saves alot to hunt the wet side, the fur just isn't as nice.

Good Luck

I have hunted coyotes plenty on the west half of Oregon. I have taken a few (3) on this side but All of them have been up against farm lands that back public land. Bobcats can be taken on the west side too,but the season is closed and you need a furbearers lic too. I hunt mostly on the East side of the Cascades now because that is where I have the most luck. If you have private lands to hunt then go get them! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

Thanks for all the feedback guys! I will moving to the reedsport area in a few years and was hoping that there would be some yote hunting up that way. Maybe there is some decent bird hunting? I was talking with a guy who was passing through my neck of the woods and he told me there was some good wild pig hunting up around reedsport. maybe I will just stick to fishing, I know thats good , lol. Any other feedback you guys have would be great! Thanks again.

I've yote hunted on the Oregon Coast region near Tillamook. I've had moderate to minimal success. However, the coyotes that i've gotten in the rain forest of the west coast have been beautiful animals with excellent fur. On the coast the coyote is pretty low on the food chain with the amount of cats and black bears in this area. The biggest challenge I've seen hunting "ANYTHING" on the Oregon coast is limited visibility until the first freeze hits. Elk, blacktails, mt. lions, black bears, bobcats, coyotes are tough to see in 4-6 foot high ferns with so much undergrowth that you can scare your own hunting partner 3 feet away from you.
Back in the day when they had the Tillamook burn they say that was the easiest and best time for any hunting. You could see for miles on the coastal range and it was basically pick one and go get it. Now, you work hard for your game on the coast. A lot of the low lands, farm lands outside of the coastal cities has been fairly good for calling. But even then it's a challenge.
