My brother and I are looking for a good shotgun to keep between us for those close up shots. Any suggestions? We do not need a $1500 benelli, just something reasonable.
 
Do yourself a favor. Before investing in any screw-in choke-tubed shotgun. That can be finicky useing various choke tubes & different sized shot shells.

Try out a [smoothbore] full choke shotgun. No choke tube's, no hassle. Tight patterns.
 
I don't know if this would work for coyotes, but it sure works for turkeys out to 60 yards or so. This was under 300 bucks at Walmart a couple of years ago. It comes with sling swivels and pretty good sights, but I added an Aimpoint 5000 red dot sight to mine.

Recoil is much lighter than the 3.5 inch Rem 870 Express I had before. I don't know if that is due to the ported 24 inch barrel or better ergonomics.

I have a remmy 870 and 11-87. They both have never let me down getting abused in the marsh,fields or sagebrush. I hunted waterfowl hardcore for a few years and both never gave me any problems. I really like the 11-87 these days it sure is alot softer on the shoulder shooting 3" #4 buck.
 
an 870 or a mossburg 500 or 835 are very modestly priced, check your local pawn shops and dicker on what ever price you see on the sticker.

Around here, Mossburg 500's usually run $135-$150 out the door.
 
I would suggest that you check out ShotgunWorld.com -- sorry Mods if this a violation, but in all fairness this website has been posted on this board before by others. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gifThey have numerous reviews on every shotgun you can think of and lots of user feedback. The site is also free if you want to ask some questions and the Mods are helpful as are the PM Mods.

I have heard that the Stoeger 2000's are hit and miss in terms of quality --- they are priced cheap and those that got good working ones love them, but those that got the problem guns really hate them. Do the reasearch and you will find that this is true. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Mossburgs have a rep for kicking like a mule and there are some quality issues as well. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

If you are prepared to spend about $900.00 American (it cost me $1,100.00 Canadian) you could get a Browning Gold Hunter 12 Ga. A top of the line Semi by most mens standards and you are bound to avoid any problems. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

Personally, I prefer to buy quality (even if I have to save up a bit longer) than to buy cheap and be frustrated in the field. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif
