.... and only ONE. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/angry-smiley-055.gif What's it gonna' be?
.223? .22-250? Something else?
What caliber and why? (Primary use: yotes, in the east)

I'm trying to steer a friend and I'm "trying" not to be prejudiced /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif so what say ye?

Hunt/fish safe,
Phil

If it's just for preditors then the 204 Ruger pretty much fills the bill. Get the CZ Varmint model, medium heavy bbl and at just over 7 pounds makes a good walk-a-bout rifle. Put on a wide field 2 by 7 scope for yotes and a 6 by 24 for rock chucks and ground squirrels (you didn't say anything about multiple scopes) and your ready to go.

Lightweight AR in .204 ruger /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif Refer to IDBobs post for what ever else I was going to say /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

.223 all the way. Most of my hunting here in MO is fairly close quarters, oh I can set up some places to shoot a long ways, but my best hunting is less than 150 yards and most likely 100 yards.

.204 is good for shooting PD's and [beeep]-birds, JMHO.

.223 also very cheap ammo if you don't reload.

.223, 22-250, .243 would be my choices,in that order.

OK , I'm going to be different . If I plan to save fur , I would go with the .17 Remington . If I just wanted to whack predators and not worry about the fur , I would choose the 257 Weatherby . On either one I would choose a quality 4.5-14 scope .

anybody think I'm nuts ?????

Up until 6 years ago I used to shoot coyotes in the East and I think a 243 is the minimum for Eastern coyotes. It wouldn't hurt to go even bigger.

I get an AR 15 in .204 and trade that LSU title in for an Ole Miss Rebel!

How could you possibly be wrong TWICE when I only asked ONE question?!?! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Thanks for reminding me I didn't have an avatar though. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Keep 'em coming guys. Oh yeah, I shoot a .22-250 and like it, a lot, but have no strong preference or aversion, at least for .22 cal or higher. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif Fur will NOT be kept save the very odd mount.

He can shoot factory ammo in a .223AI until he does...and at that time that he does reload, he will have an ample supply of brass...grin

Seriously, if one does not reload...the 223 is VERY hard to beat in terms of dollars spent on the number of rounds sent downrange in practice, and in the field.
