You guys use hard or soft gun cases?

just doing a poll to see what everyone prefers for hauling their guns around in, and if you use a different case for different situations. do you like the soft zipper cases or do you prefer the hard eggshell cases with latches? and why? i started using a zipper case, went to a doskosport hard case, and now im back to using the zipper case again.
Reason is i lay the case on the back seat, the hard case seems harder to open and swing open back there. lid always closes on itself. have to reach far to undo 4 latches. cant quickly slip the gun in the side like a zippered one. and the feet and hinges on the case were digging into the leather seat and leaving marks...which is the biggest reason i no longer use it. just curious what you guys are using and having the best luck with. thanks!!

For my AR's & other guns I use a thick padded zipper case.
The Ar's have the tactical cases where magazines can ride, if needed.

I think if I were to fly in on commercial airlines, I'd have to put them in a Pelican hard case, though. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

I use a hard case for airlines, but otherwise the guns staying in soft cases. For my AR, I have a soft case that has hard sides on it. It's the best of both worlds.

I agree, hard cases are a pain in the rear for hunting. If flying, I actually switch to the soft case (if needed), once I get to where I'm hunting.

I use the zipper case just because its easier to slip the gun in and out of.If Im pheasant hunting or something I just keep the case unzipped because its one less thing I have to do when we get ready to walk the next field. So I just use them cause Im lazy and unlatching the hard case would be a little time consuming. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gifAnd the hard cases seem a little too bulky and akward to fit behind the seat of my pickup.

i use all three!! no matter what gun i take or all guns i take!! i carry them in a hard case and hunt with a soft case. when sitting around camp i use a silecone sp sock so i don't have to break down the guns for the next day. night time is when the mosture ?? can hurt the guns!! just what i do to fend off the bad stuff!! funny how a little water can mess up a gun in such a short time!!

Since it's only 15 minutes from my house to the gun club, I usually use a soft case for range work. If I'm going hunting, it depends on where I'm going and the terrain I'll be driving over.

But for airline travel, I've got two Pelican cases for the ARs. Best advice I've ever gotten on here. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

I'm with TT. I use hard cases when I travel buy plane. But when I'm hunting I use soft cases because they fit in the truck easier and are easier to get in and out of. I really like the way the boyt cases last. I've had a couple for well over 25yrs that are stillin good shape. I have one that I need to send in to get the metal zipper replaced. They cost a little more bu are well worth it.

I use an ATV type case when hunting. I put on the hard end cap when traveling, but while hunting the cap stays off. FRequently the case works nicely when jamed between the back seat and the side of the vehicle. When hunting out of my hunting partners capped and locked pickup I strap the ATV (and my hunting partners ATV case) case to my hunting junk box witht he back up. Reach and grab for hunting and the guns relatively safe while traveling between stands.
