your experiances, Burris Fullfield II balistic plex reticle

3rd Alarm

Hey fellas,

After a dissapointing trip to the range, fate has me shopping for another scope, I was looking at the Burris Fullfield II with the balistic reticle. Has anyone any experiance with this model of scope or with Burris for that matter?

The current scope that WAS mounted on the rifle had cross hair separtation after shooting the tightest 5 shot group I have shoot in the my new rifle. This was the second time I had shot with this scope mounted on the rifle!

Thanks in advance

I own four Burris scopes, three of them with the ballistic plex recticle (atop a .17 HMR, a .223, & a 25-06), so I may be a little biased in my opinion, but I'm very happy with them. For almost any type of hunting, I couldn't ask for more. The ballistic plex can be made to match almost any load within an inch or two, which makes hold over a breeze as long as you do your part in range estimating. For the quality of the optic, I see no need to spend the extra on a VX-III, Swarovski, etc. for use as a hunting optic, but if you have the cash and see the need, knock yourself out!

Thanks roof monkey, I don't have that kind of cash flow, I blew my wad on the rifle. Do you find the Burris to be pretty clear in low light as in first of the morning or late evening coyotes stands? Have you used yours over a red lensed light?

I am used to the mil-dot scopes so I was thinking this blastic reticle would be to my liking.

I've got a couple of them, the only thing I don't like is having to turn the whole eyepiece to change power. You can't use the flip up type lens caps. Getting ready to change one from a .243 to my .257 Roberts. Should fit the trajectory better and thats the gun going after antelope this fall.

I still have one of the made in USA models in 4.5-14x42 BP. It is a decent scope for the money, but it is no brighter than several scopes in it's price range. Right now it is on a 6mm-06..........

I have 4 burris FF2 scopes, 3 in the 3x9 and 1 in 4.5x14, two of the 3x9 have that reticle, and I like them, great for a quick shot. I also have a couple friends who have them on a 25, the other on a '06 they both love them. As far as glass goes, it doesnt get much better for a couple hundred bucks(3x9).

Well I ordered one in 3-9X50, even comes with a free 20x spotting scope so I guess we will see how well I like it soon enough.

Thanks everyone for your input!

Later,

Scott

Damn 3rd, shouldve waited until I saw this post... The scope you ordered is the biggest piece of junk in the world EVER! Id rather use a paper towel tube with dental floss as a crosshair! Damn man, I hope you can get a refund! Id be suprised if the scope even showed up in on piece!

I didn't like the one I owned. It was fuzzy and blurry on anythign past 5x. It did match up to my 25-06 nicely out to 600 yards though, within 2". However, the glass did not seem very great to me, so my dad traded me one of his Leupold vx2, 3-9's. I"m much happier. To my eyes, Burris FF2 are not very crisp, clear, or bright, and to top it off, it got worse as I turned the power up. I wont buy another Burris scope. Leupold has what I like/need and they may cost a little more, but you get what you pay for in optics.

I'll take a leup vx2, 3-9 w/target knob any day over a Burris FF2 w/bal plex. If anything, at least my Leupolds clear on 9x.

I've got 3 of em, a couple 3-9x40(Philippine made) and a 3.5-10x50(US made), all with the Ballistic Plex reticle, all are crystal clear and work as intended, no complaints whatsoever, will buy another when needed! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

It may well be that you got a "bad" one from the go. I've had that happen with Burris, Leupold, Redfield, Weaver, and some others. "Bad" means more than the crosshairs not tracking. It could be focus, parallax, rain seal, etc. The good thing is The cost of the quality you buy and how well the company sees to what you bought. Those I named were great for the most part.I like to zero a 223 a shade high at 100, know its on at 200 and pull up to the first dot for 300. I like the mildot system for ease in my hunting situation.

They have my dad's Burris FFII (I think it is the 42mm 4-14 or something like that) right now for repair, six weeks it's been gone. He sent a 30yr.old Leupold back last year and it only took about ten days for the replacement. The Burris was about a year old, and will not hold zero anymore, /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bowingsmilie.gif The Leupold was 30 before it needed repair.

hello...the only complaint i have with the ballistic reticle...is the field of view seem's a tad cluttered...maybe that's just me...i'm just used to a regular crosshair reticle...the glass is clear...& the eye relief is pretty good..."good luck"...

I've had no problems with Burris scopes, but I got a defective Signature Zee ring a couple years ago, sent them an email pic of it, 3 days later I received a new set of rings. That's darn good service in my book. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

Well I appreciate all the responses that I got to this thread. As with any product that we purchase there are going to be some instances were the consumer was not happy with the product and/or service.

I feel that with the information gathered for this thread I will get a scope that will met my needs for now. I do plan on an upgrade to a higher end scope in the future if warrented.

I recieved my first "Brand X" scope in January, mounted it on my Dtech and zero'ed, went to a local calling compition and found that during that SHORT time the reticle had turned, customer service was excellant and I had a replacement scope in about 4 days. I mounted that scope and was happy. I since sold the rifle to a good friend and bought a new "Brand X" for the new AR, two trips to the range and it had failed. Since history seems to repeat itself I needed a economical scope for now and I hope the Burris will fill that need.

Thanks again for your replies,

Scott

I just bought a burris black diamond 4-16x50 and it tracks awsome and clarity and brightness are very good. It also has a 30mm tube so it should let in a ton of light and it does. I was looking at zeiss and nikon monarchs and the black diamond looks better to my eyes. It is their higher end scope and I am happy with it so far.

I've got a 3x9FF11/wBP on my 221FB "truck gun" and it serves the purpose. Not the greatest tracking on the adjustments, nor is it crystal clear. It has held zero while enduring some rough conditions and seems to be alright for the money invested . The "free" spotter is another qustion best left for another discussion.

I have on in 3x9 and it is a fine scope. I agree the Butler Creek flip up lens covers aren't made for the rotating eye piece but I keep them on anyway and adjust.

I suggest taking it to an extended range for some steady shooting up to 300 yards to find out how the hash lines will correlate to what loads you are shooting. My loads are 1" high at 100 using the main cross hair, dead on at 200 using the main crosshair and 3" low using the first hash line. This is on top of an AR which has a much higher scope over bore mounting system than a regular bolt gun does. I think that makes a difference.

Have three 3-9 FFII's and one 4.5-14 FFII AO, all BP reticles; ordered a FFII 4.5-14 Tactical today, also BP reticle. I think you'll be happy with your Burris. Mine track well and are repeatable. Love the ballistic plex for predator hunting!

Did have one out of the four that didn't track; sent it back to Burris and they took care of the problem right away. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif
