Your Pic of the Day

No, no salt licks on ranches I hunted, Bud. A lot of my pictures were taken around the many waterholes scattered around the ranches. No hunting allowed near water holes but they attract many critters, especially during the summer with our common three digit temperatures.
ETA: After looking at a couple of pics posted recently, I see where one might think they were at a salt lick. These water holes are very shallow and vary in size greatly, depending upon the wind, temperatures, etc. The water fills all the deep tracks and many of the animals drink from the tracks, which surround the actual pond.

And a not so fun pic of the day. I was replacing a unit bearing on my Jeep this morning and noticed this revolting development.

Oh well... TJ's are known for breaking track bar brackets in actual Jeep type use. It has four, one axle side and one frame side on each end. This makes three of the four that have crapped the bed. So, only one more to go! And, this one at least is safe in the garage. The two previous breakages were in far, far, far less fortunate surroundings. Both required awkward phone calls to friends and rescue missions at the least opportune times.

The last one. Rear axle side. But that one is also the rear upper control arm bracket. Only thing keeping the rear axle from walking right out from under the Jeep was tires hitting springs. Happened almost 100 miles from pavement and with some not insignificant 4WD terrain. Thank goodness for friends. After I limped out almost to pavement and got a cell signal, I called a buddy. He and another buddy drove all night to get a trailer down to me. Hauled my sorry butt all the way back to one of their houses, a 6 hour drive. Stopped at a car wash with the Jeep still on the trailer and blasted off all the crud to make it nicer to work under. Put my Jeep on a lift and repaired it better than new, and I got to drive it home from there.

Whoever I can sweet talk into doing this one for me, I'll be able to just drive it to them at least.

@22magnum22 don't be sad!

I found it in the garage. It didn't break hundreds of miles from anything. And it's an upgrade opportunity. It will be repaired way stronger than the factory setup. It won't even cost very much. So far, I think I'm looking at maybe $30 in parts. But a ton of labor and custom fabrication. I have enough friends who do this stuff professionally, that I think I'll get the labor and fabrication done for beverages. Some, like beer. Some, don't. The couple of guys who might end up doing this for me that don't like beer, both ask for Mountain Dew Baja Blast as payment. That stuff is kind of hard to find! I swear, they both ask for Baja Blast as payment, just to make me do a snipe hunt looking for the foul brew so they can privately chuckle over that.

Man, happy for you in many ways! For a while I thought I was gonna be asked to rescue you with my Toyota Tacoma! That is 1300 miles one way and I would have to leave all this snow/sleet -2 degree weather and plan for at least a three week stay and have to eat some of your steaks and drink root beer. Then you would feel obligated to take me on one of your treks to show some of that high lonesome countryside. Oh well, maybe next time!:ROFLMAO:

Ahhh... That invitation is open to you anytime my friend. No need to rescue me along the way. A good friend that owns a local brewery makes some amazing root beer - no alcohol. You would have to put up with my cigar smoking, whiskey drinking ways though.

Ain't friends great, Dave? What we go through to keep the TJ's percolating. Not near as tough a job as yours, but had to replace rear shocks on mine and chose to do it at the ranch rather than trailer home and back. Trailer and jeep were both at the ranch so loaded floor jack, jack stands and other necessary paraphernalia, picked up my hunting buddy and headed west. We loaded jeep on trailer to avoid rolling around on a caliche roadway or grass burrs then went out and enjoyed calling a coyote after we finished the job. ;) :D
