Your Pic of the Day

Only one year have I ever seen the game suffering on these ranches and that was about the 3rd year of a severe draught, Bud. The owners take range/game management very seriously to avoid overpopulation. Two helicopter game counts per year are taken on all three ranches annually before game quotas for native wildlife and exotics are determined.
After three years of draught, all of S. Tx was in bad shape; ranchers were hard pressed to find hay for livestock, many selling off large portions of their stock. Here's a couple of pictures taken that year.

The deer suffered that year, as well

Here’s some pictures from my hunt this morning.

Took this 7 point after realizing he was injured and his ear was dangling. He kept shaking his head and tilting to the injured side and would jerk away from brush every time something came in contact with it like it was painful. Had saw this buck before and was hoping he’d make it through the season but was afraid he’d get infection and die from illness or coyotes would run him down. Not sure what happened to him, maybe fighting another buck or possibly a spot lighter trying to shoot for the eye. There was a red line against the skull from the front side to the back side connecting the wounds but the hide was intact between the wounds. Anyway, the deer isn’t suffering from the wound anymore, and had to make the unfortunate choice to scrap the meat as yellow liquid poured out when cutting around that wound and had a foul odor also. Hate to do that, but don’t want to take any unnecessary risks on eating infected meat.
