Getting into March now, most everyone is winding down their fur hunting season. How did your season go? Do some of you feel the above normal temps affected your success?
 
It was a pretty bad year compared to normal. I think that the coyote calling was affected by the high temps. Coyotes just didnt seem to be hungry. I think due to the temps being high coyotes had to use less calories to keep warm therefore making their consumption rate of food lower. This turning into a hard year to use distress call, and lower kill rates.
 
I am sitting at number 31! (Coyotes)
Extremely warm temperatures, mostly windy conditions and a majority of the dogs having mange has led me to believe i had a slow year!

I am not done yet though!

Gonna be out next weekend Friday - Sunday and hopefully i will get another 5 -8 dogs.

Calving season is upon us for the most part and ranchers are telling me that they have seen an increase in Coyote sightings which is probably in part to having high/hungry coyote numbers! One of the ranches i just picked up a ranch that has 1,200 head of cattle and only 50 calves on the ground thus far. It is a 69K acre ranch and the ranch manager has told me that he has not seen a coyote hunter for nearly 2 months. Should be some easy pickings as long as the wind is not howling!

Given that this is my first season of really trying hard, and I called in coyotes two times and killed my first one, I would say pretty good. But others I know that have a little more experience say its been tougher than usual. I plan to hunt till the end of the month.

When does the fur get good again in Ohio? October?
 
Only called in 1 that ive seen and killed it. The warm weather has made it tuff huntin here. Hopefully i can get a little more action before i switch to full swing fishin mode!
 
Called in one to close range 20 yds at night- a week ago
yes I missed it with a 12ga!!!

turns out the Evil Dog ducked right next to a boulder at the split second I pulled trigger..it was coming down a ravine full bore too..

yup - Wiley used it as a buckshot shield when the kill light flashed on - a milisecond to shotblast...

MAJOR BUMMER - 19 hrs invested into this critter so far in the roughest, steepest hiking spots I venture into.

Besides that ROCK - the spot where I weeped..,
lots of sign, call them in, but not close enough for shot, piles of scat...yada yada

I enjoy the game - even when I lose the game of wits.

Besides, true losers stay home on da couch..
So I don't feel that bad...
Guns gotta be takin for walks anyway...

We've called in four and and killed three since the first of the year, not bad for my area. I let a hard charger get away two weeks ago, I hope I can redeem myself tomorrow

This was my first full season.

Got 3 fox, missed 3. Called in two others for friends.

Busted so many times I can't even count but, still had a great time.

First time I saw eyes coming in to my call, I was hooked.
 
Started this year for the first time , and didnt do too bad . Started in mid january , called in 4 and killed 2 . Spent half the season getting all my gear gathered up and getting situated . Daytime has been a bust for me as of lately , been doing alot better at night .
 
Coyotes here are allways a challenge to call. (For me anyway). But this year was a bust from start to finish.
I didn't call a single coyote, even though We are still hearing plenty.
I called and killed one bobcat, and was pleased, since he was my first called cat.

The coyotes just didn't seem to move or respond in daylight. Way too warm.

Real slow year for me, changes in the workplace cut my hunting time way back. I shot at 3, killed 2, both in feb, both females. Had a couple out of range, hesitated on 1 too long, and of course I'm shure I called in some I never saw.Starting to think about turkeys, and fishing, and getting in next yrs fire wood.
 
This 2012 year is killing me. Now my 2011 season (Jan-Dec)was pretty good considering I live in Tn. I just hope things turn around here before long. I think the warm weather put a real damper on things here in East Tenn. The guys in Middle Tenn. have done a lot better than us "Easterners". Here's my stats for last year.

This was my first season of aggressively calling -- I am hooked. Still going to hunt them when I can. Results were 3 call ins all misses 1 by me, 1 by partner, and 1 busted. On the baiting side 1 hit, 1 miss.
The fact that the calling was successful and these were my first call ins is enough to keep me going for a LONG time. Also been adding different calls to my bag, which will help in the long run. I think the warmer winter slowed activity as well
 
Been working like a [beeep] mule here in central VA.

Too warm, not much moving.....only went 3 times in all of January/February. Called in something with a tail, probably a fox. No shot. Called in a woodpecker. Glad those that got 'em, got 'em. Way to go !!

Did manage to kill 4 geese and 2 ducks.

my year was great called 4 killed one coyote and 14 greys and two reds no cats. still working on the coyotes last night we seen two when we were leaving a pound we were fishing lip sqeaked alittle and one came two about 150yrds and stopped a little far for 17hmr. started has soon as deer season went out. had my first ever triple on grays and had two stands with doubles that were back to back.
 
Seems like most of you had the same outcome that I did this year. I do think that the warm temps had a lot to do with the responses to the calls. I didn't get out as much as I wanted to this year. I still only called in 8 fox, killed one, called in 2 coyotes and no shots. I hope that next year is a big turn around!
