Zeiss Rapid Z reticle

Anyone use a Zeiss scope with this reticle? Zeiss is offering a rebate on the Conquest scopes and I am thinking about getting one, but wanted reviews on suing the reticle. Thanks!

I have no experience with the Zeiss, but do run several Leupolds with the Varmint Hunters Reticle. I like 'em for prairie dogging, but quit using them for a calling scope as I found the lines too small for low light use.



 
I have a Conquest 6.5x20 with the basic z-plex reticle that I really like. Really clear glass, good eye relief. I've compared mine side by side with a Leupy and it is hands down better glass. That will probably start a pissin match, but that's what I found.

I haven't seen the rapid Z, but the glass is terrific.
 
I have a Conquest 4.5-14 with the rapid Z 800. The best scope I've had. The reticle matches very well with high velocity rounds. It seems to be set up for rounds in the 3200 range with b.c.'s of .450 or so. The rapid z 600 is set up for slower stuff, 2900 range I think.

They have a calculator on their website that you can put your speed, bullet, etc and it will spit out the values for each line, and tell you what power to set the scope on for the closest fit.

No, it's not as precise as dialing turrets, but it's pretty darn close for the intermediate ranges.

All in all I wish I had a couple more of these scopes.
 
I just bought the new Duralyte and as soon as that comes in the Rapid Z will have some Leupolds for sale. It is way clearer low light...Greg

Thank you! I needed to hear that. I've owned Leupold scopes for 36 years now and swore by them. They managed to get on bad side in Dec and I'll never own another.

Was going to buy Burris till I was told about the sale. Haven't got my new scope yet but if it's as good as I was told I'll buy Zeiss from here on.

Maybe I can afford two of them after suing Alf for shaming me!
 
I have the Rapid Z 600 on a 6X45mm and it works quite well. As mentioned got to the Zeiss website and use the Rapid Z calculator with you round and load and it will tell you what reticle is best and also more important what power your scope needs to be set-on for it to match your load best. Mine for example has to be set on 7.5 X if I plan to shoot past 200 yards and have my 300/400/500 yard marks. Of course the 200 yard zero never changes but the other distances will if you change power.
 
A buddy has the 6.5-20x50 on a .204 ruger. The rapid z plex is nice. But as fast as his gun is running it has to be on 19.5 power for the hold over lines. But out to 300yds the hold overs really arnt needed on this gun. Sweet piece of glass though.
 
I have been contemplating a zeiss with the rapid z plex. Not sure if I want the 600 or 800. The biggest Q I have and the one I can not find anything reference on is the windage marks on the plex. The vertical posts I understand tweaking the magnification and knowing what each post actually represents for a given magnification. The windage is marked for 5 & 10 mph cross winds. But with each bullet having a different BC and with the various velocities for different loads how well does the 5 & 10 marks work? Not even throwing into the equation that the wind is rarely at 90 degrees from line of sight.

Anyone able to provide any feedback or guidance on the accuracy of the windage markings?

Well, here we are on 12/31 the last day of the Zeiss rebates. Did anyone manage to get one of their vapor scopes? I called today and cancelled mine that was on order from SWFA.

I call them vapor because I'd bet very few even saw one available.

I wish Zeiss had an email address for customer service.
 
The hash marks for windage are a crap shoot because they change with the magnification (you knew that). I set my scope for the magnification I use with the load, then I went to the range and figured out how many minutes of angle are between the hash marks at that magnification.

FWIW, I bought a 3.5-10x50 Conquest and it had debris all over in the darn thing. Showed up as black specs when viewing. Sent the scope to Zeiss and they replaced it. The replacement scope developed trash all over just like the first scope. Their service rep told me to wait until they had some newer scopes because she thought there must have been an entire lot of scope bodies that were not properly cleaned. The third scope showed up last summer and a truck load of debris came loose this fall. That's three in a row. FWIW, the scopes were used on a .204 Ruger and a 22-250. Not an issue due to excessive recoil. I have called Zeiss a couple of times, but no reply.
 
I have two 6.5x20, both are Rapid Z Varmint. I like them a lot.

I had the same with #4 reticle but, I found the bars a little too thick. Got rid of it and got the other Rapid Z Varmint.
