zero in a gun

Wondering what distance most of you zero in your gun at. I have mine at 150 yards so at 100 yards it's a little high and at 200 yards it's a little low.
 
I zero mine at maximum point blank range (MPBR). Here is a web page that explains it.

I use adjustable turrets and zero for 100 yards then dial it up to my loads MPBR.

For instance my 6.5 grendel's MPBR is 287 yards when zeroed at 247 yards figuring a 6" kill zone.

In a nut shell I am 2.4" high at 100 yards and I can hold dead center out to 287 yards and the bullet never goes more than 3" high or 3" low. Beyond that I need to adjust turrets or hold over.

I zero my centerfires at 100 and use comeups from there. Something interesting I saw the other day was that with a 308 and a mildot scope, you could zero at 300 yds and use the second dot above the crosshairs for 100, the first dot above for 200, first dot below for 400. Not exact but supposed to be pretty close.I haven't tried it. You would have to keep your scope on 10 power or whatever power your mildots were correct at.

Me, too.

I've tested it at distances and 150 yards is the practical maximum height for my .223. At 250, I'm getting close to the bottom of the 6" kill zone (around 2" low) and don't have much wiggle room. At 300 yards, the crosshairs on the top of a coyote's back will drop the bullet into the bull. So, basically, if the coyote's inside 200 yards, I aim just a little low. If he's outside 200, I aim dead-on, maybe a little higher than a little lower. At "out there", I just put the crosshairs on his back or a smidge higher. That's my max distance for the .223 so I don't much worry about it past that.

Works pretty well for me. I took 1 of this years dogs at an even 300 and about an hour later took my cat at 250.

 
+1 on 200yd zero shooting black hills 60gr V-max and just got some Hornady Superformance 53gr. to try. The 60 needs about 8.5" of KY windage to dead center at 300. Expect about 6" with the 53 gr.
 
Zero at 180 YDS for my 22-250 at the velocity I get from 50GR V-MAX; a little on the slow side. Good to 215 YDS as POA on 2 inch bulls eye. I'm happy with it. Smoked a fox laying down two weeks ago at 235 YDS.
 
we used to sight-in for MPBR but many, if not most, of our shots come at that 150 to 175 yard range and we had too many coyotes overshot. We changed to a 200 yard zero and the problems went away. We are primarily callers though so it's not very often we shoot over 200 or 250 yards and we can still hold center mass at that range.
