Zoom range and scope suggestions for 1:8 twist 18" .223 for crows to coyotes

Imma huge Vortex Viper HD fan, and have them in 2-10, 3-15, and 5-25.

Not sure if I would entertain a FFP if any coyote calling is going to happen.

My 5-25x50's are all FFP, but they're all on prairie dog rifles, and left on around15X.

I have both FFP and SFP scopes. I use FFP scopes for coyote hunting all the time. Some are better than others and are made for quick shots while some are more for target shooting. Illumination helps but I think that can help with any scope.
I also have Vipers in both 2-10 and 3-15 and dont really find they are the best hunting reticles but they can work

Im a big ffp fan and dont bother with sfp scopes anymore. They have their place, but im just used to ffp or fixed power now where dope doesnt change at all.

For crow and coyote size game, i would go with 2-4 on the low end and at least 12 on the high end. Lots of good suggestions on optics so far, but im a big athlon fan. Good features for your $ spent. I think more so than that though is the glass quality. You will be better off with great glass at 12x than you will be with so-so glass at 15x-18x. Oh, and if you can, dont bother looking thru optics at a sales desk indoors with perfect lighting. Ask for someone to go outside the door with you if your serious about buying from them. If/when they accommodate, give them your business for their customer service!

A Gen2 Athlon Ares BTR 4.5-27 popped up locally used for $350. That, or the Vector Continental in 3-18 or 4-24 are on the list currently. I'm checking for more info on used Athlons before making that decision.

Cant speak to the vector line, but you wont be disappointed with the ares. I have 2 of them…a 2.5-15x50 btr mil on my 6 arc and 3-18x50 etr moa on my 22 creed. I dont even have a rifle to put another one on, but if i came across that deal i would be asking the wife for forgiveness. Athlons warranty is also no questions asked and transferable to new owners. Let us know what you decide!
