Denning season ethics

I shot a bred female early one spring. When I went to check her out I saw all this squirming going on in her stomach. Last spring coyote for me. I couldn't be a county ADC guy.
May have missed out on some money. Taxidermist buy that sorts thing…baby coyote could be on their list.

This is a very interesting topic for me. In his book, The Art of Predator Calling, Wyman Meinzer stated somewhere in his writing that he didn't shoot every coyote he saw - "because they were just out trying to make a living". If you want an interesting book to read and see some amazing photos it is this book. It's pretty spendy but has amazing info. He was on a pod cast from some guys in South Dakota, I think, and his research on the rolling plains of Texas is legendary, FYI.

So today run into a prime example of how coyote season ethics can change.
For context I work at an operation currently calving 1500 head of cows of which I'm responsible for 200.
Found a new calf with nothing but head and spine left. Boss says "be sure your packing a gun when your out checking!"
Next morning I found another one and he tells me "with the price of calves right now I will pay you $100 for each coyote you kill!!"
And just like that I am now actively hunting springtime coyotes when I normally leave them be to have a break for Denning season.

Two farms I hunt the farmers say the coyotes don't hurt anything but go ahead and hunt them. The one farm the farmer said he was missing a calf. I found it all chewed up and told him. The other farm I watched 2 coyotes go after a young cow just like the wolves do. One would get in its face and the other one would go for the back end. I watched for a little bit but stopped it before they did any damage. They are a wrecking crew.

Ohio has a "No Closed Season" for coyotes with no weapon restrictions.
I give NO free passes to coyotes!!! 24/7 and 365 I will kill them all with extreme prejudice! ☠️🐾
I have never, nor will I ever show any mercy to coyotes! 🚫💯

Coyotes are killing game animals that I no longer get a chance to hunt. I have not been rabbit, pheasant or quail hunting in over 40 years and it used to be a Thanksgiving tradition for the entire family....no more. I've shot coyotes at point blank range, adults or pups and don't bat an eye at doing so. :sneaky:

I would like to be able to give them a bit of a break in denning season, but I do hunt April for the fact that we're calving and have had problems in the past letting them run with the calves. However I don't call at all when targeting these coyotes, we calve in a very small portion of our pasture and I have killed 10 there in the last 2 weeks within a 300yd radius, and there are for sure about 4 or 5 more that I haven't gotten yet. I'd like to think that by not calling I'm not being too hard on them, but I don't know for sure. I usually start up again about halfway through October.

I have never passed up a shot, almost all have been around deer season, our turkey and other game birds are on a decline for more than 1 reason. A yote is a fine turkey hunter and bobcats are also. In Tn they have started a night hunt with shotguns only, yotes and bobcats are the target, closed during deer season to keep down deer poaching. it will be a few years I would think before any numbers can be given. I am doubtful it will help much reading others thoughts, most want a rifle and refuse to follow the law, TWRA has been handcuffed to go onto properties to enforce the laws, warrants now have to be gotten, no open field doctrine allowed in Tn. I know what damage they do as I have found piles of feathers over the years, I wont give them any breaks.
