So this is the 2nd set from the other night.
I set up on the top edge of the pasture facing south, slight wind from my left out of the east.
I set the caller on a fence post on the east edge of the pasture, 100 yards down & to the left from me.
Got settled in, turned on the scope, & took a peek.....
Holy Shit!!! Here comes a pair cruising down the hill heading straight for me.
I started recording, then decided I better fire up the remote so Foxbang would kick in at the shot.
When the lead dog stopped at about 200, I didn't hesitate, bird in the hand so to speak. I had no clue what they were staring at off to their right, so I wasn't going to linger.
At the shot, I couldn't believe he didn't pile up on the spot. I thought the hold was good, but I was convinced I missed.
In panic mode, I tried to drop back to base mag for the other one, but ended up putting the scope in standby instead. I manged to get it turned back on while #2 stopped for split second, then as I tried to bump the power up a click, I shut the damn thing off again. I wasn't handling the pressure very well......
Feeling rather dejected at muffing what I figured was a gimme, I packed up my stuff, trudged over to pick up the call, and headed back to the truck to quit for the night.
Next morning, I downloaded the video, and it sure looked like my hold was good. So I drove out there, took a bearing where I thought he was standing at the shot, & walked down the hill. I didn't even get to the spot, & saw him piled up off to the right. Rangefinder said 38 yards is all he went. Perfect shot, exit dead center right behind the off shoulder. If I would have walked 50 yards down the hill I would have seen him that night.
Really nice sized male.
