So this is the 2nd set from the other night.

I set up on the top edge of the pasture facing south, slight wind from my left out of the east.

I set the caller on a fence post on the east edge of the pasture, 100 yards down & to the left from me.

Got settled in, turned on the scope, & took a peek.....

Holy Shit!!! Here comes a pair cruising down the hill heading straight for me.

I started recording, then decided I better fire up the remote so Foxbang would kick in at the shot.

When the lead dog stopped at about 200, I didn't hesitate, bird in the hand so to speak. I had no clue what they were staring at off to their right, so I wasn't going to linger.

At the shot, I couldn't believe he didn't pile up on the spot. I thought the hold was good, but I was convinced I missed.

In panic mode, I tried to drop back to base mag for the other one, but ended up putting the scope in standby instead. I manged to get it turned back on while #2 stopped for split second, then as I tried to bump the power up a click, I shut the damn thing off again. I wasn't handling the pressure very well......

Feeling rather dejected at muffing what I figured was a gimme, I packed up my stuff, trudged over to pick up the call, and headed back to the truck to quit for the night.

Next morning, I downloaded the video, and it sure looked like my hold was good. So I drove out there, took a bearing where I thought he was standing at the shot, & walked down the hill. I didn't even get to the spot, & saw him piled up off to the right. Rangefinder said 38 yards is all he went. Perfect shot, exit dead center right behind the off shoulder. If I would have walked 50 yards down the hill I would have seen him that night.

Really nice sized male.

Here's looking back towards my setup which is at the fence with the 3 trees I was sitting in front of.

And there he was, 38 yards away.

Well Alf, Thanks for the 'panic mode' paragraph, made me giggle. Nice shot just the same. And the pics sure did lay out how it all unfolded.
If I'd break down & start using picture in a picture, it may help minimize some of the panic mode episodes.

Congrats alf, take whatever is offered to you.
Thanks, my 1st thought was, this is too good, let's not F it up.

Like I said, I was concerned about what they were looking at, & expecting them to bolt at any time.

I never even gave it a thought to taking the back one 1st, I wanted at least one on the ground, so I took the 1st best shot.

Good going, alf. I’ve had my share of meltdown, Benny Hill moments over the years as well. 🤣 I use a RIX thermal and use the optical zoom so no messing with buttons or dials to zoom. It’s like a traditional day scope and works better for my caveman brain. The PIP thing escapes me in rushed situations. I’m just so used to centering the crosshairs that I don’t even pay attention to it.

Good recovery. Glad it worked out as it did. Looks like a fairly hefty one.

No offence but that is what I was thinking. Lol. I just got my first AGM a Clarion and PIP has it's own button closest to me. Pulsar's could be a little difficult to fumble with to turn it on.

Can’t believe you didn’t spot him with your scanner when you went to get your call.
I edited the 1st pic to show the caller location.

Taking a direct line to pick up the caller, then straight up the hill back towards the truck, he was not visible due to the bump in the hill.

I was so convinced I missed due to not dropping him on the spot, I never went down the hill to take a peak.
