Very good point. Which is why I mentioned superfund sites and dedicated water source to just cooling (both the data center and the reactors). Some essence of containment so to speak although we all know that is not as safe as usually pitched.yep...we need a bunch of nuclear reactors so we can poison the planet with the waste material.
They announced last week if you anti Ai or data centers your a home grown terrorist.Very good point. When the idea was sorta pitched, I actually looked up what we do with the fuel rods once replaced. Found some things that I thought I knew not to be true.
Originally I thought the rod was transported to caves in like Utah and such states for storage. Turns out it might be partly true. Mostly they have to be in submerged in water to cool down for 1 to 5 years. Then encased in metal and concrete before shipping to storage or simply retained on site. During my reading I came across recycling, seems we are the only country that doesn't recycle the fuel rod to be returned to power production. Supposabily the amount that is not used in the recycling process when combined with new uranium in the recycling process is inert. Not sure I totally agree with that thought / findings.
To be honest like many things today I'm pretty positive where is no solution that doesn't involve toxic waste. Solar it's the batteries, Wind it's what the heck do we do with the blades.
I don't know the answer to handle the byproducts and energy requirement of a AI center, But I've heard water and energy is the huge resources needed. On a personal level I'm of the opinion that we don't need them (AI). But I'm not in charge nor do I define the policy.
Funny, not funny. There is a cure for cancer, but the medial industry would lose millions of dollars, if it were released.Just like the cure for cancer !
Until they are bought off.Dallas city council has been asked to put a moratorium on them.
honey bee venom has been proven to kill all breast cancer (in labs), still hasnt been approved for use in humans.
the john Kanzius cancer killing machine uses radio waves to destroy cancer cells that have been injected with nano particles.
this machine also sets salt water on fire. this machine and patent was sold after john kanzius died and was immediately put on the shelf.
they dont want a cure for cancer.
dave, what do you think the consequences will be for personal freedoms in 20 years from now? or will it all devolve like it did with the Anasazis. and whats left is mad max
This happened locally. First the moratorium, then the mayor flips and says oh but all the money it will bring in, everyone is loosing it.Until they are bought off.
you missed the 500lb gorilla.... the panels themselves. full of various heavy metals, with no current known recycling ability. To be honest like many things today I'm pretty positive where is no solution that doesn't involve toxic waste. Solar it's the batteries,
I know someone that worked at a big solar site. Any broken panels got put in a sealed container. 2 Months ago we had a big tornado come through wiped out a bunch of houses and a huge solar field that spans many county blocks. Panel pieces everywhere ! It was a crazy amount of destruction. Made me laugh, at the panels not the houses.you missed the 500lb gorilla.... the panels themselves. full of various heavy metals, with no current known recycling ability.
plus any ground a solar farm is placed on is basically useless for 100+ years as anything but due to contamination from said panels. especailly if there's a mass damage event -think hailstorm, etc - anytime within the lifetime of that field.
the batteries are only a small part of the hazmat disposal and containment needed to deal with grid level solar generation.
Didn't explore solar beyond the fact I know they go through batteries quickly in their life cycle. Thanks for pointing that out. Had not thought of the leeching while the panels was in operation. Not that I am a environmentalist. Speaking of them, environmentalist where the heck are they why aren't they up in arms? Over the whole situation?you missed the 500lb gorilla.... the panels themselves. full of various heavy metals, with no current known recycling ability.
Conspiracy Theory: The Jetsons and the Flintstones happened during the same time period.I'd guess that income inequality will continue to grow until there really is no middle class anymore, just the elites and the poor. But, impossible to say what kind of changes 20 years will bring.
