The grind

We hunted a contest this weekend. All night Friday and half the night Saturday before the rain caught us and cut into our second night. We lost some time, so we adjusted, drove north to get out from under the storm, and kept grinding.

Wasn’t exactly how we drew it up, but we made the most of it.

It worked out pretty good for us. :)

Is that a Baskin Robbins?

I had 31 ear tips, but I think they would all taste the same, lol.

This was a hunt put on by a company developing a new hunting app. Anyone could enter, and the start and finish times were based on your time zone. For every coyote, you had to use their app to video the hunters and submit each kill. There was a code word, a shake test, and you had to cut off the left ear tip. So every one of those coyotes is missing the tip of its left ear.

Saturday was 100 degrees. We shot 18 Friday night and tucked them under some trees to keep them in the shade. By Sunday morning, those 18 were bloated. Some of the ones we shot early Saturday had also been rained on and were already starting to swell.

We threw the others in the row for the required picture, and I went down the line stabbing the bloated ones so they would deflate like balloons. The smell was absolutely horrid.

Coyotes still have ticks, and once the blood stops flowing, those little bastards start looking for a new ride. By the time we took this picture, we were sleep-deprived, soaked down to our socks, and itching at our wrists like we had ticks crawling all over us.

We were definitely not comfortable in this picture. 😂
