What caliber do you guy`s use to shoot varmints at 1000yards?????????

Jk....varmints at 1000 yards require good glass, good ballistics and ability.

For me..I'd stay in the .30 cal bullets.

.308/.300 wm/.300wsm/ etc

Never done it-if I was on that venture it would be my 6.5x284 or 280 AI. Shooting either with the highest BC bullet I could run with faithfull accuracy

My local varmints are woodchucks.
You'd need some serious glass & pristine conditions just to see a small target like a 'chuck at 1000yds. Was shooting that far a week ago and the mirage was pretty heavy, making my steel plate look like it was swimming. If a woodchuck walked out under my target, I doubt I'd even have seen it.

A plain ol' .243 with a fast twist barrel slinging 115DTACs will get to 1,000 just as easily as Godzilla does...

Knockemdown, all we have here are chucks also. early in the morning i can use my scope turned up but when the waves start i have to turn below 20, usually 16 or 18. still shows the critters pretty well. mirage is one of the hardest aspects of long range to read

I was kinda leaning twords the 6.5x284.

I`ve seen a 6mm Rem.AI with 105`s go 1044yds. so i know that a .243 can do it,i was just looking for other opinions,no wrong answers here...

This is just a "toy" for when the shooting slows down, we shoot in 960 yard wide alfalfa pivots so getting to 1000 is no big deal( as far as range goes) i`ve tossed 6mmbr and 220 swift out there from time to time,lots of misses a few hits.

Why is a 1000 yd. shot a hail mary...cause you can't do it ?

These days thats not even a long poke there a few guys shootin pds out beyond that with handguns.
