20 Practical or Tactical?

I've narrowed down a new build to one of these two calibers. I already have a .223 so I'm leaning Practical because I have the brass and a .223 bushing die can reload both .204 and .223. Any opinions/experience with either?

This has been debated very well over in saubier's forum. I own multiple 20 Tacts in Bolt action and AR configurations, if you reload then you wont have any problems. In my opinion, you cannot go wrong with either one. Cheaper start-up costs with the Practical though.

They are ballistically the same. If you don't want to buy dies or brass, buy 2 bushings and be done (Practical). If you want new dies and have the option of factory brass, go Tactical. Either one is a great cartridge.

I have a bolt 20 TAC and plan on building an AR in 20 Practical.

I'll second what others have said, you can't go wrong with either one.

Some of the guys are having great luck with 32 gr. V-Max's. My Cooper will not shoot any of the 32's so we have settled in on the 39 gr. BK and it's awesome.

I'm fire forming all my brass. Just way too cheap to buy that L.... brand.

I shoot a Tac20 only because of the availability of Lapua brass. Other than that I think the 20 practical or 204 are just as good.

I also shoot the Sierra 39 gr, it shoots great no matter what you feed it. The 32 gr V-Max was to finicky on the load.

I looked long and hard at both also in the ar platform. I settled on a 20 practical from woa. Some of the reasons that I went with the 20p was cheap brass and dies set-up and no fireforming. Like some of the others I could not get the 32gr or 40gr v-maxes to shoot very well. But I have some great groups with the 26gr grenades,35gr burgers, and the 39gr sierra's. The other nice thing about the practical is if you sell the gun all you have to do is run the cases through you 223 sizing die and they are back to a 223. one thing that I have tried to do is keep my bullets in the 20p different than the 223 because the 2 are way to close that I don't want to try and stick a 223 in a 20p.

Thanks guys. I ordered a 24" Shilen Stainless Select match varmint contour .20 Practical barrel w/ a 10 twist last night. Now for the four month wait

I went with the 20 Tac on my build last year because of the brass. Either one will be a shooter. Really, really accurate.
