22-250 UMAR Flat Out #$%& At 400dys!!! HD Video!!!

Director
Reading up on all the "bad luck" people here are having with their UMAR's, I had a little time between sowing spring wheat, taggin 40 calves a day, and getting my "PhD" in post hole digging, decided to shoot a quick HD video giving the UMAR its dues once again... I'm really looking forward to taking this platform next year on coyote killing spree's being the little hammer that she is, I have already killed one dog on HD video slightly over 400yds with my UMAR, and the vapor trail on the kill shot is much better than the trace you will see here!!! be sure to watch in HD
GET YOUR CAN ON!!!

Nice shootin

I could edit the coyote kill @ over 400yds using the UMAR as well, but wanted to save it for the next video.

well man im glad your having a good time with yours. I talked to Andy from Oly Arms and he gave me some different adivce might help. Im now shooting 50 grain and 55 grain out of my instead of 45 grain. Its helped with the accuracy. Other then that I went ahead and cleaned up real good again to make sure I got all the factory cosmaline(sp) out of it hoping that it will help. I though I got it all when I first cleaned it but its been acting slugish so I decided to clean it again. I only got one more question for you skinney. I have 4 different ARs but this one seems to get dirtier than all the others do you happen to know why that is?

I am assuming your other AR's are in the standard 5.56 or .223 caliber???
Look @ how much more juice you are getting running @ least 10 grains more powder than your standard .223 loads... I can shoot any one of my 223 AR-15's with a can and not get ANY gas blow back in my face (while using a PRI), when I run the UMAR I'm still getting a little blow back even if I don't have the can on (with the PRI), telling me just how much more blow back my UMAR is dishing out, which in turn would be causing some dinged brass because of the rapid extraction the 250 outputs, but that goes with the system, I fully expected this b4 I purchased the weapon, and took it into consideration knowing I was going to run this platform suppressed!!!

LOL!!! from the sound of some previous threads, I'm sure there are plenty of fellas who will be willing to part with theirs and give you one HECK of a deal... me, I think I'll smoke the barrel out first!!! I'm thinking if we actually get some snow next year I'll have some massive throat erosion after the first 1/10th of the season, probably catastrophic fire cracks after the first quarter... and need to flat out rebarrel after my season is 1/2 done!!! The enjoyment and euphoria that pulling triggers gives me, its really REALLY hard on my trigger finger to not send more rounds down range @ 400-800yds with the UMAR, knowing how fast the barrel life will diminish makes me twitch with anxiety waiting to pull this weapon out for next season.

I wonder how many rounds these barrels can take? Ive already put over 100 through mine but I would hope they could atleast take a 1000

Oh ya,
I'm not running mine to terribly hot, so even after some throat erosion, I will have enough mag clearance to seat the round out (if accuracy issues occur)... I'm planning on over 1K for mine, if I don't get to carried away on the trigger...

lol. I know I want to go shoot mine today but my kid has softball practice and I cant tomorrow because I need to mushroom hunt!! Time to get my shroom on

LOL!!! make sure you stay away from the poop piles that sprout those magical ones!!!

well heck those are the ones I was looking for. I havent got to go this year and we just got some rain so they should really be poppin up. One pound goes for around $60.00. Thats three boxes of 22-250 ammo.

Im curious as to why you expect such poor barrel life? I know 22-250's are not easy on a bbl, but do you really expect to torch the bbl in 1K rounds?

That is the number I am "assuming" because that's "close" to the same round count I have been getting with my old 22-250 rem 700's, and both being bolt guns you cannot heat up a barrel nearly as fast as a semi auto... Don't get me wrong, I don't intend to run rounds down her rapidly, and its probably a good thing the mag only holds 5... who knows, maybe OLY has worked its magic into the barrel as well, wouldn't surprise me for how well the stick shoots!!! I will look into my log's and see what the round count is when she starts falling off the charts... my 260 is pushing 139's about 2860, and I had 3 thousands throat erosion around the 1K mark, and I guarantee you this platform will have more erosion with less rounds.

Those poop pile mushrooms will open your groups up with fake mirage

. Good shooting Skinney, not much drop in the load you're running. How many MOA of drop are you getting at 400yds? That setup should work great on the coyotes.

I held exactly 4 minutes of elevation, and roughly 1 for wind (which I probably didn't need after seeing the group).
Ya this platform will work awesome on the dogs, making a 400 yd shot very very easy with only a 4 minute hold... I've taken one dog a little over 400 with this set up, slick shooting platform this little rifle is!!!
*my bad* if you were looking for inches of drop @ 400yds??? if you were, I don't chart it, I chrono my load, and "true" my trajectory via POI, and either memorize, write down, or store the DOPE in my Nomad, all data that I acquire is by shooting first, many just put the numbers in their ballistic program and go, not me... I enjoy calibrating the optics click value as well as reticle value, breaking in the barrels of all my weapons, and work up the most accurate load possible, in the long run, its make my job alot easier killing dogs that hold up @ mid to longer ranges!!!
NOTE: if I plug in the EXACT info my chrono outputs, and input the BC of the 55gr HPBT, along with all deterministic variables, and read it directly from the data my itouch puts out @ 400yds I would have "roughly" 30inches of drop, and this does NOT match up with my DOPE, if I held what my PDA said without doing any of my trajectory truing, I would miss high by about 2 minutes!!!
